What movie would you like to see redone?

Posted on 08/23/2014 7:57:56 PM PDT by MNDude

Most people will always say that a movie that has been redone never should have been redone (the older someone is, the more they are apt to feel that way too). There are probably a few movies of course that is as good as better than the original (like True Grit?). There are also a few movies that might be nice to see remade if the original has a nice concept but was horribly directed or some movies might serve better updated for the times. What movie(s) would you like to see redone?

Also the Vincent price version.
Doc savage. The first with Ron Ely and the new one that hasn’t been released yet.
The director did iron man 3. And that’s all you need to know.

Man on Fire.

Although the Denzel Washington version was actually a remake of a truly appalling original.

But they buggered up the remake too, just not as bad.

I was about to mention “Logan’s Run” as well - I ‘ll also toss in. “Silent Running” for good measure. :)

OMG I love that movie!

Grace Kelly and Jimmy Stewart are smokin’ and the nurse is such a hoot!

Robert A. Heinlein’s “The Puppet Masters,” only following the story line in the the novel, including flying cars, mankind colonized other planets and the moons of Jupiter and Saturn years before, etc.

Also, Heinlein’s “Starship Troopers” without the mis-characterization of fascistic government, include power-suits, tactical nukes, women as starship pilots, education in citizenship, etc. . .

Raymond F. Jones’s “This Island Earth” with the puzzled tech guy being challenged to build an “Interociter” but following the original novel.

With the CG capability we now have, these three could be redone quite well.

Gunga Din

On second thought they couldn’t find another Cary Grant, Douglas
Fairbanks Jr, or Victor McLaglen. Forget it.

Northwest Passage

Spencer Tracy was great but the battle scenes might be better
with today’s technology and improved production values.

"Forbidden Planet"

An ancient race so advanced they built a machine that could give physical reality to thoughts and dreams. When they turned it on the entire race was wiped out overnight! Surely a special effects cornucopia! Who wouldn't want to see that.

"Prometheus"

A huge disappointment.

Gone With the Wind, except by Woody Allen, and located entirely in Manhattan.

Who will play Carol Burnett's part in the scene with the curtain rod?

The Searchers

Except there aren't enough "manly" men left in Hollywood to play either John Wayne's nor Ward Bond's parts.

“The Sum of all Fears”, the way Clancy wrote it.

“The Third Man” set in contemporary Moscow

“The Longest Day” without the schmaltz, a production similar to “A Bridge Too Far”.

“It’s a Wonderful Life” if there’s anyone out there with Capra’s sensibility.

“Double Indemnity” the way James M. Cain wrote it, with a decent cast and director.

“A Place in the Sun”, more faithful to Dreiser’s novel.

I have read all (approx.) 20 of the Dune series.

Sting is overly impressed with himself. I can’t take him seriously.

I’d like to see a remake of “Catch 22.” Despite an all star cast, the original failed to catch the dark humor of the book.
