WHO: Ebola Spread Outpaces Control Effort

GENEVA — The head of the World Health Organization has told the presidents of West African nations stricken by Ebola that the outbreak is moving faster than efforts to control it.

Dr. Margaret Chan, WHO's director general, says if the outbreak continues to worsen, the consequences could be "catastrophic" in terms of lost lives and socio-economic disruption.

Dr. Chan is in Conakry, where she met Friday with the presidents of Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Ivory Coast.

WHO and the West African leaders are finalizing a $100 million plan to fight the spread of Ebola, which has claimed nearly 730 lives.  Dr. Chan said more than 60 health workers are among the victims, and that some international relief workers have been infected.

The WHO chief said her hope is the plan emerging from the Conakry meeting will mark "a turning point" in the international response to the outbreak.

Several hundred medical personnel are about to be deployed to West Africa, Dr. Chan said, and an emergency committee will meet on Wednesday to assess the international implications of the outbreak.

I’m reminded of a line from Hank Hill some years back.

“I’m trying to prevent an outbreak and you’re driving the monkey to the airport”.

The Ebola outbreak is moving faster than they can control it...and yet our feckless leader and his administration will bring two US citizens striken with the Ebola virus right here to the US for treatment.

No case has ever made it to these shores. Now our own government will bring them here. Another one of:

OBAMA’S TRAGIC FIRSTS
http://www.jeffhead.com/obama1sts.htm

Ebola is a serious and dangerous diease. it is highly contagious and this patrticular strain has a 78-90% mortaility rate.

Not something that should ever be willing brought here.

A few years back, IIRC, an aide to some foreign bigwig died shortly after meeting Obama.

Ahhhhh, the incentive.

A hundred MILLION dollars... for Africa.

Does it seem odd out of millions of people in Africa that so many westerners (as a percentage of population) came down with Ebola? And that the disease started in three separate regions at the same time - and in cities - which has never happened before...

I'd like to know HOW that hundred million is spent... and the millions that will follow. Or as Stalin would say, ""You can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs."

Obama’s “Science Advisor”, Dr. John P. Holdren, is a RADICAL POPULATION CONTROL advocate who has previously called for COMPULSORY ABORTIONS to control pop. numbers.

Evola would be the ultimate “Forced Population Control” tool.
Given everything else this administration, full of radical academic theorists, has done, would it be beyond the pale to believe that some of them would consider this?

Just wait for when the Won has his upcoming conference with African leaders where each of them will be bringing sizable contingents with them.

The people who dream those dark dreams never look into the implications.

It won’t be garden world with slaves serving you grapes, it will be a dark age. Despite what post modern historians have said, the Black Death was NOT a good thing.

Ironically, it may have been ebola.

Actually they’ve dug up bodies from mass graves from the black death and that was another microbe.

It’s suspected that the Athenian plague may have been ebola however. There were trade routes into sub saharan Africa then. Not many though.

Imagine some Athenian trader bringing home a cage full of infected fruit bats for Athenian elites to enjoy at the next banquet.

Justinian’s plague, the Black Death, and the Athenian outbrake all have some similarities to Bubonic plague. But some of the descriptions describe a VHF.

I had a professor in school who was convinced there was more than one agent besides Y. Pestis.

Not likely but if the TSA start wearing masks be afraid it won't be Halloween.

This strain looks like it is AIRBORNE, not like influenza or the common cold, but it survives in large droplets in the air. The definition of airborne is being parsed.
http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-20341423

From the article:
“One possibility is that the monkeys became infected by inhaling large aerosol droplets produced from the respiratory tracts of the pigs.

One of the scientists involved is Dr Gary Kobinger from the National Microbiology Laboratory at the Public Health Agency of Canada. He told BBC News this was the most likely route of the infection.

“What we suspect is happening is large droplets - they can stay in the air, but not long, they don't go far,” he explained.

“But they can be absorbed in the airway and this is how the infection starts, and this is what we think, because we saw a lot of evidence in the lungs of the non-human primates that the virus got in that way.”

Basically macaques and pigs in the same room no physical contact but Ebola transmitted.
