Actually they’ve dug up bodies from mass graves from the black death and that was another microbe.

It’s suspected that the Athenian plague may have been ebola however. There were trade routes into sub saharan Africa then. Not many though.

Imagine some Athenian trader bringing home a cage full of infected fruit bats for Athenian elites to enjoy at the next banquet.

Justinian’s plague, the Black Death, and the Athenian outbrake all have some similarities to Bubonic plague. But some of the descriptions describe a VHF.

I had a professor in school who was convinced there was more than one agent besides Y. Pestis.
