The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.
No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.
Let it slide, let it slide, let it slide. Grand kids grow up even faster than your own kids. Enjoy.
What a fantastic idea!
Mess, as in mess hall meal; it is NEVER a mess in the other sense.
One was so well liked by both us & friends that we had to spend a few weeks perfecting and duplicating and recording ingredients and amounts, so she could enter it in a cook off. Ate it until it ran out of our ears, but it was worth it: it took First Place in the Main Dish-Poultry category.
If you need a recipe for whistle pig, (tastes like chicken!) let me know. LOL
Thanks!
Best wishes to Lady Bender.
Yes! Since Mr. Sg put a calcium compound onto the earth and then corrected the pH, we haven’t had a blossom end rot issue here. However, we have to constantly watch for tomato hornworms and those darned brown caterpillar-looking things that my dentist warned me about. (Stomped one of them this past week.)
Oh, love these tried-and-true recipes! Thank you so much!!!
Ya gotta love ‘em!
We lost a lot of pears with the big wind storm several weeks ago, but the tree is still loaded. The pears are close to getting soft. Sure hope the critters leave them alone this year.
Good for her! Wishing her a speedy recovery!
You may need a little less hope and a lot more action.LOL The real question is are there enough for the critters and you too? Can you beat them to it?
We got dwarf trees so that we could put protective netting on them, but our trees are very young and not really producing yet.
That’s great. I’m going to copy that down and try it. Always looking for a new way with chicken.
I have to admit, though that fried chicken is my favorite. Of course I don’t ezt it often due to the fat content, but I would eat it a lot more often if not for that.
That’s good news. I’ll be thinking about ya’ll. Saying a little prayer for speedy recovery.
Well, even though we live in a city and it is illegal to discharge a firearm, if I see a squirrel with a pear in its mouth, it is fair game for the trash can.
Possums and raccoons come at night, and I am not going to stay up and try to get them. I did get one possum early one morning with a steel toed boot to its gut.
I am positive I couldn't do that. I don't mind shooting them because to me it feels kind of impersonal..
boot to gut direct action...personal
aiming, pulling trigger, crack noise, "oh look, there's a dead animal"
To my wussy self, that seems like an indirect action..impersonal.
I was on my way to work, and the possum was under the pear tree eating a fresh pear. I wore steel toed boots and that was all I had to get it. Kicked it into the road like a football.
Saw this zucchini enchilada recipe..Okay, I didn’t even read the recipe, I just thought, hmm, I bet cucuzzi, and Trombettas would work for that recipe.
