We just got back from the visit with the podiatrist...he is going to refer Cody to see an infectious disease specialist. He took this VERY seriously. He said it looked good but he could tell it was bad before…and if there was ANY fear of MRSA, he wanted it evaluated before he went forward with treatment. I still have to clean and dress it 3 times a day. They are making an appointment to see the infectious disease specialist ASAP and then back to see the podiatrist immediately after being released for further treatment. He said it was severely swollen, the skin of the toe, next to the nail, is so swollen it is growing OVER the nail. He believes that will get better after the infection and injury is removed. The doctor is going to remove 1/8” of Cody’s toenail, on both sides of each toe that is affected and then apply a chemical that will prohibit the nail from growing back. It looks like the second toe of one foot is showing signs of becoming infected, so that one may need treated too. Thank you for the continued prayers. It appears he may get the treatment he needs thanks to the input and prayers of my friends here!

Prayers up for your son, trussell. His condition sounds scary, praying that is getting cured right now by the antibiotics and the prayers.

When my son was only seven, he was always sick. Doc hospitalized him for a week of tests (that’s when insurance really worked) and came up with nothing. Then I read a book about nutrition — vitamin C deficiency sounded a lot like what my kid had. So I loaded him up on megadoses of C and within a week he was a healthy little boy again. Apparently he needed many more times than the standard daily dose of that vitamin. Still does.

It’s not uncommon to have an above-normal need for one or another nutrients. You might check out that avenue. Couldn’t hurt:)

No matter what happens to us, it never hurts as much as something going wrong with our child. Praying for your emotional wellbeing. May the Good Lord bring lasting peace to your mind and heart.

I’ve been praying for Cody and checking back every few days but there has been nothing in over a week. I am concerned.

Please, did you see the infectious disease specialist?

How is Cody?

Please let us know.

God be with you!

Thank you so much for the comment. I have been fighting for two weeks now to get Cody in to see the infection disease doctor. We finally got an appointment set up for the 25th of this month and he is on a list to be seen earlier if someone cancels. I can’t understand why this doctor wouldn’t be a bit more concerned since the foot doctor was so desperate for Cody to be seen so quickly. It must be an area issue as it seems the doctors here have a lack of compassion and concern for the patient. Still having issues with weeping, crusting, oozing even though I have cleaned it every day, 3 times a day. It’s still red and swollen. The skin next to the nails are so swollen they nearly cover half his toenail. I can put the tip of a cotton swab into the space where it is covering the edge of the nail. I called the insurance company and explained the situation and they are unwilling to give...they still refuse to approve the meds that were originally prescribed to him. I asked about other antibiotics and was told there are many that won’t work for this...since this is in the toes, there are certain antibiotics that have to be used or you are just wasting time and giving his body immunity to those antibiotics. I am stuck at this time waiting for this doctor to get him in. I just pray it isn’t too late for his toes.

Is the oozing and swelling not any better at all? If not, it does seem odd that ID wouldn’t see him on an emergency basis.

Hopefully they’ll have a cancellation and he’ll be seen earlier.

You may have answered this, but if they believe there’s the chance of MRSA, have there been any tests run, a culture done?

The oozing is slightly better, but it's still oozing and still VERY MUCH swollen. The swelling is worse. I'm praying for a cancellation, I'm so worried about his toes.

As for your other question, I'm not sure if they took a culture of it at the urgent care...there was definitely enough puss and crusty material to do so, but I didn't notice if they did. Otherwise, we are waiting on the ID to clear him for the toenail removal.

You’re going to worry, but it can take a while to heal these infections, no matter the cause.

My MIL has been suffering with something that has eaten the flesh of one thigh. It’s been there for seven months now. It was so large at one point that I could put half of my fist down into the cavity, and now it’s about two finger breadths, so it’s healing slowly. We’ve had to take turns with dressing changes several times a day, but that’s what it takes, so you just do it.

Speaking of dressings, it’s been a couple of weeks and I’be wondered if you got the box of supplies I sent and if it contained what you needed.
