Thousands of music videos are expected to soon disappear off of YouTube because the independent record labels behind those artists are not involved in new deals being cut by the Google-owned streaming site.
YouTube will announce in "a matter of days" that videos on the site featuring recording artists from some independent labels will be blocked, the FT reports. The ban is aimed at forcing the "refusenik" labels into signing licensing agreements with a new service, coming soon from Google.
When the forthcoming service, YouTube Music Pass, is finally launched later this summer, subscribers are expected to be able to not just stream videos from one of the world’s most popular sites, but back up that content to enjoy later, even when an internet connection isn’t available. This feature is currently offered by competing, pay-to-list music services such as Spotify and Rhapsody, but not YouTube. To get as much, however, customers will have to fork over a small fee, and so far independent labels have refused to agree to the licensing agreements involved.

The indies will sign. They need that exposure.
All this is is the record companies trying recoup their former stature. I am all for musicians getting their cut. But spotify ect give them less than the old companies by orders of magnitude.
Until the record co’s learn that their time has passed, meaning when the last of them closes its doors, we will keep seeing the scheme of the month monopolize musicians and fans income.
But Russia and china have servers too. And they are about to become very popular.

The RIAA minions have managed to shut down indie outlets since the nineties. Always the indie artists develope a new avenue to the public.
Same old same old, and in the end the loser will be YouTube.
Looking for new musicians (lately some excellent Asian and Russian jazz artists - look up Morikawa Natsuki) is most of what I do regarding YouTube.

LOL, I most probably did. All the web browsers have an app or extension to download videos and mp3’s off the web. I know most of the metal vids I like on YT are indies.
That is the great thing about Chomecast is that all of those damn ads don’t play at the start of every video.
I produced an indie CD a few years ago. In addition to i-tunes,which is the only one that pays fairly, the songs are included in just about all of the other music services, which only pay about a penny per download. Basically, I receive $10.00 per thousand downloads. The only reason I agreed to this is because the band needed the exposure. Last week our video on youtube came up on my husband’s iphone as a featured video. He was very surprised to see it. I don’t know how the new youtube rules will affect our videos. We’d like to stay on youtube. We have no record label, our CD is self-produced.
