Why did evolution stall during the 'boring billion'?
New Scientist ^ | Jeff Hecht

Posted on 06/12/2014 7:44:28 PM PDT by JimSEA

LONG before evolution on Earth kicked in with a vengeance, it seemed to stall completely.

From 1.7 billion years ago, for a billion boring years, Earth remained a slimy, near-static world of algae and microbes. The pace picked up 750 million years ago: glaciers spread, complex animals appeared, and by 520 million years ago the Cambrian revolution – an explosion of varied life – was under way. The reason for that long stasis has been a mystery.

We may now have the answer: the gradual cooling of the planet's interior. Just as turning down a stove burner slows the boiling of a stew pot, cooling of the mantle allowed the "scum" on top to thicken, says Peter Cawood at the University of St Andrews, UK. The resulting surface stability slowed geological change, seemingly stalling evolution for a billion years, until the planet was cool enough for tectonic activity to shift up a gear.

There seem to be three big problems which most people have with religion. In something like order of magnitude, they are: The problem of evil; the Theory of Evolution; the Book of Joshua. Aiding the process of getting rid of evolutionism is not a waste of time, I believe it’s doing some of God’s work.

Flying was a good idea however it came about. Flying reptiles, flying mammals and the amazing diversity of birds. I think a video of a crow in Russia obviously creating a game to play sliding object down a snowy roof was just out and out humbling. We haven’t got any monopoly on smarts.

What could possibly be worse than professing to believe in such a thing?

Believing in anything other than those things known.

Beliefs belong in church.

Then sleep well, knowing that you won the argument, and that you are 'right'.

Personally, I see more of an appetite for a pseudo-intellectual fight than desire to convert in your actions.

My experiences with evolosers inform me that they are basically immune to logical and rational argument, but they are not immune to ridicule. I aim to teach the world to laugh at them.

And ridicule is something the Savior taught... I'm sure.

This conversation is what results when you try to argue with someone with an objective mentality with subjective and meaningless statements.

I'll go to bed knowing I am "right," but only because you didn't offer a wrong.

I think it was 3:15 May 16, 4004. Please try and get the date correct.

Jesus had some pretty harsh words for the “religious” leaders of the day, harsh enough that “ridicule” isn’t much of a stretch.

That said, I would tend to agree you that it is more appropriate to be concerned about the eternal future than the distant past...

No, the calculation by Usher was quite precise. You are wrong.

Prove it.

"Darwin's Ghost ... The Origin of Species UPDATED" by Steve Jones. 350 pages of modern findings updating each of the fourteen chapters in Darwin's original work.

Among the eight reviews on the first page is this from the The Independent on Sunday...

"This is a delightful book, infused with wit and panache, and as enthralling in its own way as was Darwin's original ... Wonderfully conceived and gloriously executed."

Another review, from the New York Times, reads ...

"Jones has rewritten Darwin's narrative with the help of the latest insights from evolutionary biology ... Adapting the rich anectodal style much favored by Darwin, but seasoning it with a good dose of the sardonic humor that readers will recognize from Jone's previous books, Jones demonstrates how completely modern technology has vindicated Darwin's claims."

Didn't Darwin himself believe that if his theory is true, that the vast majority of fossils would be transitional forms?

Makes sense if the theory is true.

There must have been countless dead-end half-creatures that simply couldn't survive.

I live in the real world. In real life, evolution is a junk science ideological doctrine masquerading as a science theory and there actually are flavors of junk science which are relatively harmless, but evolution is not one of those. Evolution is a junk science doctrine with 200,000,000+ dead human bodies lying around to its credit. I am quite certain that God wants evolution and evolutionism out of this world, they've already done enough harm, and I'm also convinced that simple human laughter is the only thing which can do that.

The situation is similar to that of the emperor who went walking down the street naked. Evolution will die out in this land when it comes to the point that a teacher or professor cannot stand in front of students and talk about it without seeing eyes roll back and hearing snickering in the room; then they will just talk about it amongst themselves in conference rooms until a final generation of them dies of old age, and it's finally over.

Pure Darwinism demands that the overwhelming vast bulk of all fossils should be clear intermediates while in real life, no clear-cut intermediate fossil has ever been found. They're still looking for the first one.

The new flavor of evolution, "Punctuated Equilibria", attempts to account for two things i.e. the lack of intermediate fossils and the impossible time frames needed to spread ANY genetic change throughout any sort of a large herd of animals (Haldane Dilemma) but, as I noted above, this "punk-eek" has its own set of problems which is just as bad as classical Darwinism. Walter Remine notes that what evolutionites are serving up now is a sort of a "smorgasbord" i.e. that no one flavor of the thing is really logically coherent and that they are serving bits and pieces of the different theories.
