A Wisconsin family who had been living in their home for over a decade, knew the whole time that there was a hidden metal door in the ground in the backyard, but somehow were never tempted to open it and see what was inside or where it led to. Until one day, after all these years, they decided to crack open the metal hatch and discover the mystery behind the door.
The Zwick family were stunned to find out that this was the entrance to a Cold War-era fallout shelter buried right there, in their backyard. A ladder led them down into a bunker, which was a treasure trove, chock full of interesting items from the past.

Curious thing I’ve noticed about a lot of city dwellers, even when they have a house with a small yard they’re just not that into the outside of it. In and out of the side door by the drive, maybe a patio but little else seems to capture their attention. Front door seldom used, hire out mowing and trimming. Even those who spend on renovations concentrate on the interior. Exterior is grudging maintenance of necessity.
The hyphenated wifename is the give away. She’s not going to lose her real self in some patriarchal marriage covenant!
Maybe they need to check and see if Obama’s birth certificate is in there? ;-)
I bet the manufacturers don’t have samples that old in that good condition..
Me too. And I then would have kept my mouth shut about it and restocked it with modern supplies.
Thanks for posting that link. I used to love that song.
Exactly. Imagine what fines they'd be paying if the EPA were to show up today with their big book of regs. Who buys a property without sending in the inspector and checking it out yourself? Wonder if the assessment office was charging taxes on that structrual improvement.

The hyphenated last name is a dead give-away as to what type of family this is...lol
GMTA - my post #111. I should have read all the comments first!
That happens here and GM do TA. Whenever I see that hyphenated name you know you’re dealing with a woman with power/security/dominance issues. Good catch.
I would love to find a home to buy with such a shelter. That said, I would certainly not be mentioning it to the media...or my friends...
Absolute lunacy to buy the house without doing this first.
My dad always told me, “Never trust a woman with a hyphenated last name.”
He’s yet to have been proven wrong.
Twinkies could survive a nuclear strike, but not a union strike...
