What is the best advice you've ever received?
Posted on 05/24/2014 9:32:56 PM PDT by MNDude
Maybe it was some wise warning your dad once gave you, or maybe it was something useful your coach told you that still guides you today, but what would you consider that best advice you've ever received?

Never marry a man for his money, because once you’ve spent it, you’re stuck with him.
My grandfather told me this when I was about 12 or 13 and I followed it. We celebrated our 50th in September.

See thou character. Give thy thoughts no tongue,
Nor any unproportioned thought his act.
Be thou familiar, but by no means vulgar.
Those friends thou hast, and their adoption tried,
Grapple them to thy soul with hoops of steel;
But do not dull thy palm with entertainment
Of each new-hatchd, unfledged comrade. Beware
Of entrance to a quarrel, but being in,
Beart that the opposed may beware of thee.
Give every man thy ear, but few thy voice;
Take each mans censure, but reserve thy judgment.
Costly thy habit as thy purse can buy,
But not expressd in fancy; rich, not gaudy;
For the apparel oft proclaims the man,
And they in France of the best rank and station
Are of a most select and generous chief in that.
Neither a borrower nor a lender be;
For loan oft loses both itself and friend,
And borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry.
This above all: to thine ownself be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.

People don't treat you the way they treat you because of who you are. They treat you the way they treat you because of who they are.

Take off and nuke the site from space. It’s the only way to really be sure.

It was something I read, in an article in Parade Magazine, titled “How the Brain Works.”

When you buy socks buy a large quantity that are all identical. When one develops a hole all of the rest of the socks still match.
