The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.
No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

A watched pot never boils? Rain fall is what really kick starts our plants. Will the tomatoes be transferred from the green house eventually?
nope...staying indoors. plan to train them vertically...as soon as I get them to grow, lol

This Summer I will be real busy changing things around. My niece asked if she could get married in our back yard.
My reply was an obvious yes. I told her I would move Mt Rushmore to make it happen. Luckily I only had to pull up some bushes, two trees, and swap a few rose plants around.
Oh yea, I need to till a portion of the ground we have left feral, so I can plant grass for her path to the alter her Dad is making for her.
I will share some pics of the progress from time to time. This is a great thread, I’m glad you started it.
I look forward to the pictures. I didn’t start the thread. I took over from Red Devil and Just a Dumb Blonde. Red Devil took over from someone else, but I can’t remember who.
Any way, it was a big help to me when I first started, so I wanted to keep it going so that more people could learn and so that I could continue to learn too.
It is a big relief from the political and bad news stuff that we hear from all corners these days.
I thought that too. I had to search to look at roadrunner, and chaparral to find which it may be. I’m not sure if I had my glasses on when I saw him either. The markings were similar to the RR that I linked, but other pictures were not. I could not find anything online to indicate RR’s being in SE Texas. If they are nesting in that debris pile, we will be seeing them again.
Yes , I recommend Rye The 'inoculated' is a nitrogen nodule fixator to the seed, which also provides nitrogen and fiber to the soil.
Thus it provides fiber to break up the soil and provide organic content , and nitrogen for the following crops.
But it must be broken up into small fibers via a lawnmower , or it will bind any roto-tiller
Also , consider dandelion, which breaks up the soil, and sends roots down to 15 feet that will bring up micro-nutrients to the topsoil.
Another is mustard seed, the yellow flowering 'weed(?)' which also brings micro-nutrients to the topsoil.

Beautiful gardens. Are you northern, southern, central, or coastal CA? Distinct growing zones in all those places. I should add montain too.
Politics, ugh! My mother passed in April, and I doubt that I’ll ever visit my native state again. It does not resemble the CA of my childhood.
Get a dog. My Golden Retriever used to catch moles and bring them to me for approval.

I am in the foothills west of Chico, about 100 miles North of Sacramento.
My zone is a mix between 8 and 9, so I get the best of both worlds, along with the worst of both worlds. It can make it difficult to know what will and what won’t grow.
Somethings that thrive in zone 9, will grew here, but not well, other things grow even better than in zone 9, when it shouldn’t in zone 8. Then it goes vise verse with the other way.
It’s a learning experience, but it’s been enjoyable. I also have a Cherry tree, although it has grown too big to reach the cherry’s before the birds get them.
I had a fig tree that was brought over from Corinth Greece by a neighbor who grew up in Greece, but the Cherry tree over shadowed it and the fig tree had to reach for the sun which caused it to lean too much. Before I knew had a chance to replant it in a better location, a gopher got to the roots and killed it.
I also have a Mandarin tree that gives of a great abundance of Mandarins around the holiday season which makes great gift baskets for the neighbors.
As for politics, yes I doubt anyone who lived here and then moved would recognize it. Retirement is but 6 years away and then my wife and I will be heading for greener pastures. Greener for politics, but I will miss the growing seasons.
Guess that explains why the slober buckets had to have flea baths this week. Ha, I’d have to tell ghost dog “Stay!” while I got the camera. We’ve decided it’s either our old husky (my best friend) who’s buried in the garden or the neighbor’s dog. The neighbor’s dog knew it’s mama owner hated him so came down here all the time. Poor thing, his papa owner put us in his Will to take him but when papa owner went to the hospital the dog turned up dead... uh hmmm.
It looks like it is going to rain but nothing is showing on the radar. Come on rain! Around Austin, they’ve put a ban on building new swimming pools due to Lake Travis being so low.
What do they look like?
We have these “bunch” type things, really small bulbs, smell like onions and SPREAD like mad. Really hard to pull up and they have to be forked up - or you only wind up with the tops.

We’re nearly neighbors as I garden on the muddy shores of Humboldt Bay. All of our fruit trees have been destroyed by Bears...
