The Fiscal Times ^ | May 22, 2014 | Maureen Mackey

Be honest: That bacon, egg and cheese breakfast you scarfed down the other day was so delicious you’d love to have it for breakfast every morning. But like so many other health-conscious, weight-watching Americans, you just won’t allow yourself that indulgence. Instead, you opt for the usual low-fat, low-calorie and (oh-so-bland) oatmeal.

Exactly right, and that doesn’t take into account accidents and other manners of death.

I just prepared and fed my 94 y/o mother an Oscar Mayer bologna, bacon, and tomato sandwich for dinner. I hope it doesn’t kill her.

All my fat assed and bellied brothers hated me for decades because I ate and drank with no control and nothing seemed to bother me nor make me fat.

Then I turned 54, career changed to driving a truck and EVERYthing's gone wrong and continueing to deteriorate.

I should'a stayed rebellious

Live your life the way you want so long as it doesn’t interfere with others. I hate the nannification that government tries to impose. And I’m having a double large egg omelet with sausage and pancakes and bacon for b’fast tomorrow morning. But that’s it for the day. LOL

I think we are all a bit different. If you're healthy and trim, there probably isn't any need to change what you're doing. But, if you're obese and out of shape, you need to make some changes. I know a lot of fat, physically unfit people, but I don't know any that are happy about it. Many of them are ignorant and just don't know why they are like they are and a lot of them just don't have the inner strength to change the way they do things.

Eat normal proportions of healthy food and get exercise and you'll be much more fit. Learn about nutrition and try to get to the gym everyday.

Good for you! Life is far too short, regardless of how much lettuce we eat. :)

In the end it will turn out to be genetics....If they find something that re-ravels telemers, then we'll all live forever.

Au contraire. The left will just send a Diana Moon Glampers to "take care of" those with slowly unraveling telemers.

Yes, it is, and you can mix almost anything with it. Try a little sriracha some time.

Those preservatives may be preserving you.

And I’m reading that the studies linking nitrates with cancer have been discredited.

The food pyramid was around long before the Reagan Administration. I remember it from grade school, so I probably saw it in the late 60s thru mid 70s.

This may be a satisfying answer to you but is not helpful or accurate. The whole point of the article is that we have been misled in our definition of healthy foods because of an inaccurate food pyramid promoted by the government without any real research. It has taken decades for scientists to examine the food pyramid critically and realize that it is making people obese and promoting type 2 diabetes and that avoiding fat is further compromising people’s health.

Inner strength sound good and so does self discipline but calorie counting, portion control and exercise does not yield results for many people. Talking about going to the gym every day may make a person feel self righteous but many people are caregivers,or working two jobs to make ends meet and don’t have that time or funding. Its just an easy thing to say that puts the blame on an individual with genetics that makes them especially sensitive to carbohydrates or some additional factor that we have not uncovered yet. There is good information in this article that, if more widely dispersed, could do a lot to improve the lives and health of many people in a way that eat healthy foods, in “normal proportions” and go to the gym will not.

Thought you’d be interested. People are soooo desperate to believe that bacon is a health food and cholesterol should be a beverage. You have to laugh.
