If the NBA is using rules endorsed and enforced by the collective owners of the teams through the NBA, he has the right to discovery to assure that they are not capriciously enforcing ‘rules’ they themselves might be intentionally overlooking.
The guy is a billionaire and I’d imagine that he’s willing to spend a few million to make the NBA pay for their indulgence.

The question raised by NBA’s Stephen A. Smith, Spike Lee, and several NBA players, current and past, is “Why is it taking so long to fire Donald Sterling?”Ehhh, maybe because you can't fire an owner? You can fire an employee, but if the owner doesn't want to sell, then what?

During discovery, a lot of dirt can be discovered about the other owners. Don't limit it to owners. Expand it to include management, staff, coaches and players. I'm sure digging in THAT woodpile will uncover a few other bigots...

Give them time though. Mark Cuban might be the next one. They’ve probably got the NSA reviewing his comms to find anything questionable.
