The question raised by NBA’s Stephen A. Smith, Spike Lee, and several NBA players, current and past, is “Why is it taking so long to fire Donald Sterling?” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver was so strong and strident in his announcement that steps would be taken “immediately” to do just that. There was no ambiguity about whether they were going to fire Sterling for his racist comments against African Americans. It is a done deal. Commissioner Silver surely would not have made such a profound announcement without having consulted the other NBA owners. So why hasn’t the first shoe dropped?
Like an onion, the answer has several smelly layers, and several lawyers. The first shoe is Donald. The second shoe is Shelly, his estranged wife and 50% owner of the family trust that owns the LA Clippers. The NBA is more concerned about the second.
The most important deliberative point I suspect is this: One or both of those shoes may sue the NBA and its owners. I have several legal reasons for why a Sterling suit would ultimately fail, not the least of which is that the controlling owner from the trust was Donald. He is the only one on the governing board, and the removal of him effectively removes the trust. But that does not stop either Sterling from commencing the action, and getting to a stage we call discovery. During discovery, a lot of dirt can be discovered about the other owners.
Donald, himself a lawyer has been litigious in the past. Shelly is lawyered up with tall cotton firms....

This is National Enquirer stuff. Its going to get worse. I’m thinking Silver is a member of the gaystapo and he went with more glee than prudence even with his legal background.
If the NBA is using rules endorsed and enforced by the collective owners of the teams through the NBA, he has the right to discovery to assure that they are not capriciously enforcing ‘rules’ they themselves might be intentionally overlooking.
The guy is a billionaire and I’d imagine that he’s willing to spend a few million to make the NBA pay for their indulgence.
The NBA is a stew of thugs, drugs, fornication, and greed. Looking under the carpet might be a bit too uncomfortable.
Indeed. Yet allegedly educated people tune in faithfully on the Boob Tube to witness their antics.
So who are the fools?
Actually that’s one of the few names I can recall daring to suggest that the NBA is on shaky ground.

Ehhh, maybe because you can't fire an owner? You can fire an employee, but if the owner doesn't want to sell, then what?
Mark Levin also went over it and said the NBA was out of bounds in their choice to force him to sell. They are ignoring their own rules.
For one thing, the law is on Sterling’s side. Luckily we no longer believe in the rule of law, so the mindless mob may get its way. Or not.
This will be an awesome court case in any event a real Donnybrook.

The conspiracy claim in and of itself is sound. His mistress starts taping hours of calls and sends pictures of herself with girls flashing gang signs and known black philanders (Magic Johnson). She gets audio of him saying something construed as racist, immediately sends it to TMZ. There is a quick response to divest him of the team, and the guy in the photo that triggered it is the first to say “I’ve got a billion dollars in backing to buy your team”.
Don't limit it to owners. Expand it to include management, staff, coaches and players. I'm sure digging in THAT woodpile will uncover a few other bigots...
Depends on what he had to sign agreeing to in order to be allowed to own a team.
They don’t have ‘preferred’ ‘new owners’ lined up for any other teams.
Yet.
Give them time though. Mark Cuban might be the next one. They’ve probably got the NSA reviewing his comms to find anything questionable.
