Just got back from buying groceries. Each month the same groceries cost me more and now I’m starting to find the shelves cleaned of some of my favourite things.

There are exceptions like SPAM has gone from $2.50 down to $2.38 a can. The selection has dwindled down to the basic varieties though.

I found my favourite brand of refried beans w/jalapenos had increased to .99 per can and I found only two cans available, both bent. They used to be .69 per can.

Canned vegetables have increased about 10 percent recently with some decreased in volume from 15 oz to 14 oz.

My favorite cheese crackers have remained around $2.50 per pkg. but the volume has been decreased twice in the last few months. Out of stock quite a bit lately too.

I am thankful I can still buy most things but if prices or availability change, I could be forced to use some of my emergency SHTF rations sooner than expected.

I try to keep a 90 day food supply on hand in case somebody pulls the plug. After that it beans, rice, and who knows what else is left over in my SHTF inventory. Planning beyond 90 days is iffy for me and I’ll probably be gone by then if conditions have not stabilized.

What we have is HYPER INFLATION!! It is the end of our savings— our lives and our children’s future. We have been destroyed by bail outs to invester tranches bundled without recourse in order to finance home by Fannie and Freddie for low life’s who had no clue how to pay back. It was distribution of wealth by the communist master minds. Prepare for for desolation and rally tremendous demonstrations. Find them Punish them. !! Arm yourselves and stock food and water . Join with Neighbors of like mind. When the parasites come you will need numbers and bullets to protect your children from starvation. Get tough or get dead.

One of the SS advocate organizations has been running an ad for several weeks stating that SS only went up just over 1% last year, but that Food Stamp benefits have been increased 30% since Obama took office.

I have 135 containers of food growing on my deck - and that includes corn on the cob. This is my first full year of knowing how to grow food after a year of failure and study, and help from JRandomFreeper and greeneyes and others on our FR gardening thread.

This year is growing numerous kinds of tomatoes and cucumbers and peppers and broccoli and peas and Brussels sprouts, and Tromboncino squash and strawberries and blackberries and Egyptian Walking Onions, and carrots and potatoes, lettuce, etc... Next year I’ll know the type of each that grows the best for my container garden and I’ll concentrate on those types.

I won’t have every veggie I eat, but what I have will help and no one touched them but me and there are no chemicals on those plants and they didn’t travel in a truck from California to get here. I grew most of it from seed - imagine a garden from seed, those little seeds grow into great plants.

You are invited to visit the gardening thread any time - we have a blast over there. greeneyes is the “master” of the thread and a new one is started every Friday afternoon. We post all week to the one going, then switch to the new one on Friday. No kidding, you can grow some food.

This makes me realize I need seeds for lettuce this fall...any idea where to buy in bulk and save on the tiny amount you get in small packets. I have some non-gm seeds but it does not seem right to use that supply yet (cost).

Has anyone suggested buying and stocking pasta sauces with meat instead of mushrooms or herbs? Seems they will be cutting the protein in those soon in order to keep the prices even.

The cost of everydamnthing is up. If the unit cost isn’t higher than two years ago, the unit is smaller. A pound is now 12 ounces and a half-gallon is now 58 ounces and shrinking. But like medical services, if you really pay for it, you don’t care how much it costs. Bring on the universal EBT..
