Report: Food Prices Skyrocket: “We’re Going to Have a Major Problem Coming Into the Fall”
SHTF Plan ^ | 5/14/14 | Mac Slavo

Posted on 05/14/2014 4:32:58 PM PDT by Kartographer

The Producer Price Index made available by the Bureau of Labor and Statistics this morning has now confirmed those fears. Consumers are seeing an immediate impact to their wallets in the form of food price inflation and in all likelihood the trend will continue going forward.

These latest numbers are serious. So much so that according to Zero Hedge, “the last time food prices spiked by this much in one month, the resulting Arab Spring wave of revolutions tumbled governments across north Africa and the middle east.”

Must be nationwide. We have shopped Winco in Chicago burbs, Phoenix, Yuba city, CA, Vancouver, WA & Near Seattle area. All stores have same basic format.

Chicken quarters can be purchased for 59 to 79 cents per lb. I use the thighs as a substiute for beef in soups and casseroles. A whole chicken or turkey costs 99 centts per lb.

I have bought chicken, beef, and pork on sale and canned it in a pressure cooker. I also eat more beans, cornbread and rice with just a bit of meat for flavor.

Your local feed store usually has seed available in bulk and cheap. You will have to ask them about whether or not they are GMO or not.

I usually get heirloom seeds from Bakers Creek Seed Company or Bountiful Gardens. Then I grow extra to save the seeds, and I don’t have to buy them again. Hubby’s garden patches are bigger than mine, and he goes to the local feed store to get his seeds as well as bales of straw for mulch.

Too much potassium can build up in elderly due to decreased kidney function. This has a negative impact on the heart and other functions of the body.

“It is people like you abstain”

I didn’t abstain.

I just didn’t vote for the liberal with the R after his name.

Nor did I vote for Obama.

But I voted.

It’s not a binary choice you know.

And as for the “not pure enough” mantra:

Romney isn’t just “not pure conservative enough” There is nothing conservative about the man. And yet you voted for him.

Again, it is YOU who keeps encouraging the Republican party puppet masters to keep running these useless, unelectable idiots because they listen to YOU and your type when they say “I will vote for whoever the republicans run even if I don’t like it”.

Guess what, you and those like you are on the Republican plantation just like blacks are on the Democrat plantation.

Open YOUR eyes. And grow a spine and quit letting the big bad Democrat liberal scare you into voting for the Republican liberal.

Congrats - we paid ours off a few years ago and it’s definitely helpful. My car note is up in September and it should add a nice boost for a few years. Careful planning might make it unnecessary to open the Alpo as I join my wife in retirement.

I'm afraid to ask what the other 20% is. Is that number something about the fat content?

In most instances it's fat. But you have to be careful because now in some cases they're adding non meat fillers. Look for an ingredients label. There shouldn't be one. It should be 100% beef (or pork).

I came across some fresh Italian sausage the other day that had 'soy grits' in it. Now I have to check labels on an all meats.

They also like to inject water in the form of a broth in many cuts of pork and chicken, sometimes beef. You could be paying for up to 20% water in some cuts.

And don't forget the carbon monoxide packaging to keep the beef bright red indefinitely. If you see the meat wrapped in plastic packaging that's looks inflated like a balloon it's probably been pumped with carbon monoxide.

Watch for more and more adulterated meats as prices continue to climb.

Yes, I find I am eating a lot more rice , beans, and salads with very little meat. I planted lots of lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, beans, and squash this year so that should help me out.

You did good. I normally go with markdowns, as of late, and bring home to freeze. Has worked pretty well, so far, and have not been sick yet from food poisoning. Or if was sick from food poisoning everything appeared normal even if wasn’t. Some days is difficult to know what is normal in related body functions. (smile)

Unfortunately I was being sarcastic about the mortgage. As in moving it off the budget books the way the feds have done with Fannie & Freddie.

Oops. Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you are obese. I would have no idea.

I was referring to the fact that most Americans are rather ample and cutting back might not be a bad thing.

Darn bacon is almost 6 bucks a pound.

Paid $18 for four lbs at Costco this week. Cheapest I've seen it in a while. Some of the stuff we buy was getting up around $8/lb. Needless to say, we aren't buying much of it anymore. Gotta watch 'em, too. They're messing with the weights of the packaging.
