The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.

No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.

Lyrica is expensive and came about long after Amitriptyline. At the time Amitriptyline came on the market, it was used in large doses for depression. Medical people discovered later that in small doses, it shuts down excess electricity which causes muscle spasm. Amitriptyline is extremely cheap since now there are generics. Lyrica does stop nerve pain, I just don’t want the expense.

I don’t notice any side effect from Trazodone. I read those last night and I don’t have any of those “maybe” side effects. I couldn’t sleep without it, anyway, so I’m taking it. Medicine acts quickly in me and it doesn’t take much to get the benefit from it. Pain doctor always started with the cheapest med at a low dose when determining what works with a person. He knew I had a fast metabolism so he always started with low dose of anything for me.

RadioHut has a 10k ohm universal fit ...

How about three of those in series, with a lot of duct tape to hold it in place?

Lyric is pricey; I dont know just what we pay for it but it was a life changer for me, and my wife too. I actually sleep at night now, well mostly. Because of lyrica and several other meds, sleep is an expensive event for us.

“I go to sleep for about 3 hours, wake up and can’t go back to sleep...”

With Trazodone, I sleep 6,7,8 continuous hours of deep sleep.

Make the wind stop. It's been constant since sunrise. It's 30 MPH out of the north. It's almost impossible to do anything outside. I can't even open the shop up, because everything blows around in it. Well, the lathe and milling machine and anvil don't blow around, but everything else does.

Latest forecast says 43 for tonight so that’s up from the 39 a few days ago for tonight. There is wind here as I am looking out toward the back and big tree limbs are moving quite a bit.

I actually saw a bee on a blackberry flower that has opened. Yeah, a bee!

71 here at 4:53, 20mph winds, gusts to 32mph. I worked in the shop a while, stopped at 12pm. I was sawing and sanding, but the wind did not blow into the shop.

I do know that during the 2cnd sleep test, they gave me ambien. My REM sleep was better, but still deficient.

Coincidentally Dr. Low Dog was on TV today. She is a Medical Dr., but also a professional with respect to herbal medicines. She does prescribe Rx, but if there is another approach that has less potential problems she will have her patients get the alternative.

For sleep, there is a combo of Valerian, passion flower, and hops that is supposed to be just as effective as Ambien after 2 weeks and with out the potential Ambien side effects. Does your book have anything on these remedies?

She also talked about Butterbur(migraines), Cammomile(anxiety), SAMe(pain). I always find her discussions interesting.

Trazadone is on my list to research before I go to my next Dr.s visit which is sometime in May IIRC.

I’ll look those up tomorrow in my book.

I checked on UPS and my big pots are supposed to be delivered before tomorrow is over.

a few white blooms have opened on the blackberries and there was a bee on a bloom. The blooms are larger than I thought they would be.

Orange tree: There are bunches of tiny green round things on the orange tree and a few of them are turning orange, but not many of them. That has to be oranges. If they all fall off, I will not be happy.

I’m putting net over the strawberries at night so it will be on them early in the morning - the birds and squirrels are going to come after all those green strawberries.

I’ve got so many onions in the net room that are going to be big ones, that I’m for sure going to can some but I just looked at my Ball book and the other veggie water bath canning book and they all want me to have whole small onions for those canning recipes. I will not have little round onions - I will have BIG onions. Do I ignore the fact they ask for small round onions and just whack my large ones up to fit in the jars???

Onion is onion. Will not be so pretty cut up as if dainty whole baby onion. Eats the same.

You entering the state fair with your canning? If not, don't worry about it.

“You entering the state fair with your canning? If not, don’t worry about it.”

Since this is my canning debut, the goal is to not poison myself with the onions and strawberries. If I only get enough strawberries for one pint of preserves, I’m going to can it so I will have the experience. I have read and reread the canning process and I will follow the instructions to the letter. My mother canned everything in a hot kitchen because there was no air conditioning in homes then. I never saw her read a direction and we ate that canned food all my growing up years.

Her whole pickled peaches were fantastic - we had the peach trees. And the fig preserves as we had fig trees.
