Noahs Ark would have floated even with two of every animal in the world packed inside, scientists have calculated.
Although researchers are unsure if all the creatures could have squeezed into the huge boat, they are confident it would have handled the weight of 70,000 creatures without sinking.
A group of masters students from the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Leicester University studied the exact dimensions of the Ark, set out in Genesis 6:13-22. According to The Bible, God instructed Noah to build a boat which was 300 cubits long 50 cubits wide and 30 cubits highrecommending gopher wood for the enormous lifeboat. The students averaged out the Egyptian and Hebrew cubit measurement to come up with 48.2 cm, making the Ark around 144 meters longabout 100 meters shorter than Ark Royal. Using the dimensions, the Archimedes principle of buoyancy and approximate animal weights, they were astonished to find out that the Ark would have floated.

” Only females bite for blood..”
True for more than just mosquitoes.
Noah took SEVEN PAIRS (14 of each for the math inept) of every clean animal and one pair of every unclean animal.
Genesis 7:2 "Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female."
Mosquitoes are a primary food source for fish, bats, and birds.
That is their only useful purpose.
Well ... considering that God made the entire universe and everything in it, I think he knows how to build a boat ... :-) ...
I suggest a much bigger issue than whether the Ark could float the animals is whether it could float their supplies.
An elephant eats upwards of 300 pounds per day, so two adult elephants would consume upwards of 110 tons of food over the course of the arks journey.
That compares with perhaps 6 to 10 tons for the elephants themselves. Which gives us a ratio of perhaps 10x to 15x for the food supply as compared to the mass of the animals themselves.
Applying the ratio to people, which is perhaps more typical of many animals, particularly omnivores. 200 pound man requires about 2 pounds of dry food per day. 2 x 370 days = 740 pounds = food ratio of 3.7.
Horses eat about 3% of body weight per day, so food ratio of somewhere around 11.
Norm the ratio at a conservative 6:1 for food for all animals. The article unfortunately doesn’t seem to include the rather important number of the weight of the animals, only their quantity. But it would seem their food would weigh at least 6x as much as they did.
Also, if the entire earth was flooded, presumably the water the Ark was surrounded by was salty, which presents a rather critical logistical problem in itself.
theyre tiny but then again so are the krill that whales eat..
Thank you.
I believe Noah and the animals were in the Ark for at least 377 days. Loading would no doubt have taken some days, so some of the animals were on board for somewhat longer.
God would have supernaturally provided for the animals perhaps putting them in a state of hibernation.
According to The Bible, God instructed Noah to build a boat which was 300 cubits long 50 cubits wide and 30 cubits highrecommending gopher wood for the enormous lifeboat.
No wonder Home Depot is out of gopher wood; Noah used it all up.
I think one who can “bidd’st the mighty ocean deep, its own appointed limits keep” might not have a problem with a little “loaves and fishes” on the ark.
Old bar bet:
How many animals of each kind did Noah take on the ark with him?
A) 0
B) 2
C) 7
D) 14
E) All the above
= = =
The answer is . . . E)
0 Gen 7: 14 They had with them every wild animal according to its kind, all livestock according to their kinds, every creature that moves along the ground according to its kind and every bird according to its kind, everything with wings. (Fish were excluded)
2 Gen 7:2b . . . and one pair of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate
7 (Gen 7:13 On that very day Noah and his sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, together with his wife and the wives of his three sons, entered the ark.
14 - Gen 7:2a Take with you seven pairs of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate . . .
And that’s the first mention of clean and unclean animals in the Bible too, chronologically speaking.
Scientists also like to say that most of the species that exist on earth have yet to be discovered, too.
BTW, the list would have included two behemoths. Depending on who you believe, that could have been a pair of the species Paraceratherium.
Very good point! Much less the tons of crap that would accumulate and have to be disposed of on a minute to minute basis.
Well, the dung can be thrown overboard and food and water stored. Feed the dead animals to the predators, etc. I wonder what the gross tonnage of a ship of that size would be?
Yes, baby tigers would be easier to handle; that is, if you could get them away from their mothers.
How about the weight of the biggest cruise ship pool ever—just to float the whales?
Interesting that the length/width ratio is 6/1. Many boats/ships today have that same ratio. It promotes stability
Sounds like you don’t believe it really happened. Apparently you have not heard the ideas of bringing in juvenile or even infant versions of each animal kind nor the idea that most any species has the ability to hibernate esp. under extremely stress-filled conditions.
If the rain water wasn’t fresh I’m fairly certain God provided a way for their every need. Heck, even now a days He provides for the atheist’s every need, doesn’t He?
creationscience.com - the only plausible explanation for our present-day conditions and it’s rich abundant variety of life forms imho.
