What about your corrupt leaders in Congress, the White House, the Senate and those down to the local levels, who are way too numerous to mention?

You deny this government, at every single level, over and above their agents in law enforcement, have not become corrupt?

I believe that there are those that are corrupt at every level...but not every level is completely corrupt.

1. The big money is no more for the non oil people. They are hiring Pakistanis now because even the Filipinos are too expensive.
2. The maids and outside help is mostly Malaysians now.
3. South Africans and Australians have replaced Americans in most places.
4. Saudis are driving taxis now which I’m sure didn’t happen when you were there.

1. ARAMCO was hiring Pakistanis. I knew two of them. One was a chemist and one worked in the commissary. I dealt with the latter a lot. His name was Haneef. He was a nice guy and I had to deal with him a lot. He also never shaved and that annoyed me. Men should shave every day if they are going to deal with the public. I finally asked him one day: "How come you don't shave every day?" He didn't say anthing.
The very next day he shaved and shaved EVERY day from then on. NO ONE had ever noticed or cared before since he wasn't at home in Pakistan. He REALLY missed his wife.

2. Malaysians? My, they MUST work dirt cheap. Things must be REALLY horrible at home for them. They have my pity.

3. South Africans and Australians have replaced Americans in most places? Well good for them!
BOTH groups are white and Christian, people of the Book. I'm sure they can use the money.

4. Saudis WERE driving taxis when I was there. Saudis didn't consider MOST work "honorable." That's why it was so hard to get them to work. HOWEVER, for some reason, they considered DRIVING "honorable" and were driving taxis all the time I was there.
Along the freeways the government used to LEAVE the horrible head-on collisions right there off the road so the folks driving by could LOOK and SEE THE the dangers of excessive speed and not enough sleep/attention.

“WHO is blaming the victim? NOT ME. Please no OLD chiches.”
You say this, and then you say this: I’m sorry, but there are victims of police abuse who did nothing to ‘turn it into a “victim” ordeal’, and the way you talk it really seems like you think any negative encounter with the police must be the citizen’s fault.

1. There are bad cops in this country...not many but there are some. The HIRING is the key and MOST police forces have some psychological exams before-hand.

2. ALSO, there are complaint procedures to follow, at least in the better cities and towns where people can file charges against a police officer. Again, it depends on the town and how it handles things.
If YOUR town or city doesn't HAVE procedures to complain about a bad cop then your town or city SHOULD have them. SHAME on them.

3. Most encounters with the police ARE the fautlt of the citizens.
*Believe it or not MOST cops don't cruise around looking to make trouble for no reason.
**MOST cops stop drivers because the drivers broke the law.
***MOST cops come to your home because someone complained about you or someone IN THE HOME called them. They don't show up randomly at a random citizen's home for NO reason. They REALLY have more important things to do.
****EVERY officer who stops a vehicle or person, or goes to answer a call HAS to file a report on what s/he did and what the outcome was. Again, this is for cities and towns that have their act together.

BAD guys often cruise working class neighborhoods to check out the homes that are empty all day long.
We had a couple (black man, white woman) who did that in OUR neighborhood. They knocked at the house next door--our neighbor was home. Our kitchen window faces his front door. They came to OUR home next and I answered the door. We had a gate. They gave some phony-baloney story about looking for Mr. So-and-So. Naturally I told them they were mistaken. They DID burgle some other house up the street.
The cops came by the next day to question the neighbors. I was able to describe them. A few days later I went to the main police station and identified their photos. They were eventually caught.

4. The ratio of police on patrol to citizens is amazingly small. But that is because, for the most part, we are citizens who generally respect the law. There are countries that are almost lawless. Afghanistan is one of them.
MOST citizens here do what they are supposed to do MOST of the time. When they don't...one option is to call the cops. People "call the cops" ALL THE TIME.

From my knowledge the calls that ALL police loathe, deplore, abhor, detest and HATE to answer are the DOMESTIC VIOLENCE calls.
--They are usually no-win as batterers do it ALL THE TIME.
--Also, their spouses, women OR men (There ARE gay male AND female batterers.) always refuse to press charges or DROP the charges.
--The battered wife/girlfriend, husband (Yes, there are women who batter their husbands.) or SAME-GENDER person WILL NOT leave the batterer.
They will NOT leave.
IMHO, THEY need the shrink as much as the batterer does.

Well, I guess I do “mis understand”.
I am RC, the altar is not a place to screw around.

No one was "screwing around on the altar." They were chatting before and after Mass IN Church so that those who were trying to pray a little more couldn't because of their chatter.

========================================

Must be a secular deal with Christians that I am simply unaware of…no offense intended.
No, no "secular deal with Christians" is going on--just folks who are too self absorbed and anxious to chatter to think about others.

========================================
We go to Mass to worship, all of the socializing is done when Mass is over. Then..you can expect anything! But most folks just scoot to get out of the Parking Lot!
Yes we do. And all socializing SHOULD be done when Mass is over.
MOST folks do scoot but not all. I don't.
I always stay for the recitation of the rosary, done by a group of us old ladies. THEN I do the Stations of the Cross. THEN I'm done.
There is no recitation of the Rosary on Sundays, since the next Mass is imminent. So, I don't do the Stations on Sundays either.

I do think that the Catholics are the only faith group that has DAILY and MULTIPLE services.

*Catholics have daily Mass, usually at more than one time of the morning or evening.

*Protestants have their Sunday service.

*Muslims have no official prayer service but do go to the local mosque to pray five times a day. If the mosque is closed or something, they pray at home.
Women can go to the mosque. If they DO go to the mosque they pray up in what WE would call the "choir loft." Women usually pray at home.

*Jews: Sabbath or a sabbath is generally a weekly day of rest or time of worship. It is observed differently in Abrahamic religions and informs a similar occasion in several other practices.

*Hindus do NOT have a "sabbath" but worship some 330 million different gods, goddesses, animals, objects, etc. They have festivals honoring specific gods.
States, areas, cities, towns, villages always have their own favorite deities so, in reality there are festivals to the gods going on all the time all over the Hindu world.
Hindus run into a conundrum when they immigrate to the West. Their temples are few and far between. It's almost impossible to be a good Hindu outside of India.

==============================

From Google:
World population - 6.9 billion people
Christians - 33.32 percent of world population
Catholics - 17 percent
Orthodox - 3.53 percent
Anglicans - 1.25 percent
Protestants - 5.78 percent

Muslims - 21 percent

Jews - 0.23 percent

So more than half the world is Judeo-Christian (Jew, Christian, Muslim).
A third of the world is Christian. More than half the Christians are Catholic Church, including or excluding the small number of Orthodox (state run Catholic Churches).
All of the Protestant denominations add up to about 7 percent of world population.

===================================

Google is, of course, NOT the ultimate answer and/or truth but it was interesting to see what numbers they did come up with.

Your post needs less caps lock and more logic. Our cops are bad and getting worse daily. I say that as a military veteran, son of a retired Sheriff’s Deputy, and as someone who’s spent time abroad. The stats speak for themselves, but I’m sure you’d rather just clamp down on that caps lock key and help make that thin blue line just a bit more of a thick blue wall.

WHAT a perfect call sign you chose for yourself.

There’s nothing wrong with slamming our cops for doing bad things without having been in a third world country. The behavior of cops in other countries and exposure to same is 100% besides the point. You don’t have to have ever stepped foot in another country to see that TPD decided there was going to be a riot Saturday night and when the citizens didn’t provide them with one they made one happen, and you don’t have to have stepped foot in another country to know that is a very bad thing.
Frankly if US cops want people to be less anti-cop they should be less assholes. With no knock raid on the wrong address, creating a riot when they couldn’t get one, shooting dogs for no good reason and the host of other things they do all by themselves to bring shame upon the badge they’ve brought this on themselves.

WHAT a shame that your town/city/county has so many horrible cops. It's the fault of the town/city/county that hired them.

What a shame that you neither trust nor respect them. Again, the fault of bad cops lies with those who hired them.
Obviously, your city, town or county doesn't have the grievance procedure to let their bosses know what bad cops they have.

Maybe you should start the ball rolling with a public call for a grievance procedure. I bet you won't though and will slam me for even mentioning it.

Lazy, uninterested, unmotivated or complain-only citizens are going to allow bad cops to get hired and continue to "shame the badge."

I know. I know. "Not my job."

Since I ditched all the caps, are you now going to give me static for the underlines and bolds? I hope not. They are for emphasis. :o)

God bless America.

You should never trust the cops, they’re not on your side. Their job is throwing people in jail, and you’re people.

Like most cities in America the “grievance procedure” results in an internal investigation where they decide the cops did no wrong. There’s always the problem of who watches the watchmen.

I do what I can. When good candidates come up that talk about reigning in our faulty police system I give them money and I vote for them... and then they lose. I myself manage to rarely have direct contact with the cops, when I do and it’s bad I fill out the forms for complain, and nothing comes of it. Luckily the police are sewing the seeds to their own destruction, years ago we voted down a tax hike for them and since then we’ve been “punished” with a dramatic reduction of police “services”. The upshot of this has been teaching the people of Tucson how little we really need them, so we’re using them less, reducing their services further. A situation like Saturday (which they are “investigating”) will further reduce our reliance on them since many have now seen them make a problem just to justify their presence live and in person.

I didn’t give you static for the caps. Though it is nice you’ve transitioned to a less shouty form of emphasis.

“1. There are bad cops in this country...not many but there are some.”

I think this is just naive. There wouldn’t be nearly so many cases of abuse and corruption if what you think is true, and the cases we know about are only the tip of the iceberg, because it is so easy for police to cover up their misdeeds.

Also, for all those cases that don’t come to light, they are kept quiet because all the “good” police officers refuse to do their jobs and turn in their fellow officers for misconduct. Which means most of those “good” cops are criminals as well, because they are accomplices after the fact. I’ll buy the argument about “a few bad apples” when I start seeing those “good” cops turning in the corrupt and abusive ones instead of covering for them.

--You are from Tucson? Wonderful place but I was there decades ago. I'm sure it's unrecognizable now. I used to go to the Canyon Ranch spa. I was there in time for spring training once. I saw some of the games too. I still know the wife of a step-cousin who lives there.
My mother and sister were born in Phoenix. We used to visit my grandparents in Phoenix...in June. Whew, it was hot! Everyone is gone now and I lost touch with the wife of my step-cousin.

I suppose the drugs coming in from Mexico drive much of the problem. I know the cops in Mexico were crooked but their were paid almost nothing and got their money from bribes--"mordidas" or "bites."
Maybe the Tucson cops are on the drug-take too. I wouldn't be surprised. They may also be threatened if they don't take the bribe. Who knows. The USA is the main market for the drugs so I doubt that the trade will stop or even diminish.

You better stay here in the USA, Boogieman. If you were to live/work in another country, a second or third world country, you would soon learn that the cops there are ten times worse. They make our own look pretty good.

I know you won't though. It's much easier and safer to trash our own and expect them to be much better than they are...that is, up to your standards.
So be it. Adios, muchacho!

I don’t care how “good” they make ours look. I’m not going to find any level of abuse and corruption by police acceptable. Maybe you do, after all, you’ve admitted that it has never actually affected you. The rest of us are not so lucky, and have every right to demand accountability and professional conduct on the part of our public servants.

“It’s much easier and safer to trash our own and expect them to be much better than they are...that is, up to your standards.”

Yes, up to my standards, indeed. I’m the taxpayer, so I’m their boss. I will make no apologies for demanding that the police I pay for not engage in criminal conduct that they would happily imprison you or I for engaging in.

So you are saying it has been 15 years since you worked with peace officers. I say this because that about (2001) when they became militarized law enforcement officers.

Agree. Why the heck PDs need MRAPS? It’s not like we have an insurgent problem or are they just getting prepped for one?

The reason they had to hire Aussies and South Africans was because a lot of Americans left because of the cheering that those SOBS did when the towers fell.

No, I retired in 2010. The officer attitude has been evolving since I started in the late 80’s. Officers in general have become more ‘liberal’ in there actions in my 20+ years contact with them. In my opinion they have become more dangerous as they combine that ‘liberal’ action with increased militarization. Especially SWAT and SWAT-like police teams. Having worked with both good and bad officers, when having contact with an officer I don’t know if I’m interacting with a good or bad one, hence until they prove themselves, I no longer automatically give them the benefit of doubt. An officer’s job is NOT to protect you but to enforce the law. They generally do not have your best interest at heart, it’s the law’s interest they are concerned about. Any protection a citizen derives from their actions, one should consider a side benefit. It’s ultimately your responsibility to protect yourself....which is becoming increasing difficult to do.

Those students who caused the riots were A-HOLES and its my belief that they weren't really students...just agitators who did what THEY did because they had NO life.

My son was there, being an a-hole, got shot with a baton round, and learned a very sharp lesson. He is indeed a student, with a very high performing and responsible life. I think he will be even more so after this experience.

People do stupid things when they get in a crowd, especially intoxicated young men. I'm glad my boy got whacked with a bean bag, and glad it did no damage. He agrees he totally deserved it. If I met the cop who drilled him I'd shake his hand. I have no intention of suing anyone or even filing a complaint.

Unlike my dumb-ass boy, the young woman in the video did nothing whatsoever to deserve being smashed to the ground by a charging cop twice her size. If she had been my daughter the lawsuit would already be filed.
