The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.
No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

B) Are the leaves large and do they grow thick enough to create a significant shadow?

Yes, growing them in containers. Yes, the leaves are very large and would create significant shadow if on a trellis or attached to a stake in the middle of the container. And, they grow really, really, fast.
How long/wide is a leaf? Hmm, maybe 4 1/2” long and 3 1/2” to 4” wide. Let me see if I have that picture of that plant flower and I’ll email it to you - leaves show there I think and you can gage it by things around it.
By next year, I'll have every bit of the back yard that can be planted, planted. I'm seriously thinking about getting rid of the elm tree back there for a few more square feet of growing space.
I need 10 acres.
And a mule.

I’m having a slow rain I can’t see from inside but went out there and there is water coming down, the deck is wet. Now, if the sun would come out, those plants would grow.

When my wife came home, on 336 near you she said the pollen was sitting on top of the rain puddles where it had washed off of stuff. I have yellow streaks down our driveway. I hope it washes my trucks for me, they are yellow covered.

I know where she is talking about as water drains to that corner of the intersection making a pool of water - it can’t drain fast enough. The rain did wash off the yellow pollen that was on cars.

If you read up thread, I’ll have at least 100 containers on my deck and in garden within two weeks or less. I also would like more room but I couldn’t deal with it. I’m not sure the plants in the black pots are in a big enough pot. I’ve got bush peas for containers and small type cucumbers and small peppers and others in those black 3 gallon pots. I don’t know what will happen with those, but I’ll know if I screwed up if it doesn’t work.
I may just go out and look at my trucks. Maybe...They are blue again.
It had washed some off, but since it was all softened up, I took the water hose to both trucks. They had been so nasty I couldn’t even drive them to the car wash. The gutter was sure enough yellow by the time I came inside.

What size pot? I have 15 gallon smart pots I was going to put T squash in..Do you think I can put more than one T squash in a 15 gallon pot?
Ditto on the cucuzza. I figure it will be easier to keep bugs, foliar diseases, water needs etc, monitored if they are away from other plants growing on cattle panels.
I took time to find out how much soil was in the barrel I put last year’s plant in, and it has to be a 5 gal. barrel.
I have other containers for the rest of the T squash, they aren’t planted yet but are close, and have to look those up to see how much is in them but I’m pretty sure they are not 5 gallon, a little smaller. Be back when I look those up.
Thx, maybe I can get by with ten gallon smart pots. Lol, I prefer to work off someone else's trial and error..
I was talking to someone at the Gunshop today who used to live in NY, and was around a lot of Italians. I asked him if he'd ever eaten cuccuzi..and described them..He said, "Oh, you mean "gugootz". He said the ones that are picked at about 8 to 12 inches long are called jadools..which could be a bad word in Italian for all I know.
The pots I will use for the T squash beside that 5 gallon one are 3 gallon. I’ll know after this if they will be large enough. I do have one other larger pot here that must be at least 4 gallon and I’ll use that for one, so I’ll have one 5 gallon, one 4 gallon, and two in 3 gallon ones.
I’m up at 2:30 tonight with back hurting. I slept in the recliner as best I can with TENs unit on, but not being able to roll over is the pits. It doesn’t bother me in the chair or walking, just lying down in the bed. Grrrr.....
I told my orthopedic dr that if testing for any arthritis cures come along, put my name in the hat to be a test dummy. Not likely to happen. :(
The internet gets pretty boring when everybody is asleep. LOL
In San Antonio, they have clinical trials out the wazoo, but most of them say,, "between the ages of 29 to 60, and healthy.
I know a person who got a hospital bed so she could raise it to have her upper body somewhat up instead of flat in the bed. A wedge pillow also raises you. That pillow is very firm to hold up the upper body. It does not depress like a regular pillow does when you are on it.

Got out the chain saw, got rid of some ligustrum almost all the way to the ground. One, had grown around rebar with grounding wire, and the power supply cord to an electric fence unit..That was fun..not.
Now, it’s getting kinda hot out there to be chainsawing stuff (if you are a wuss like me, anyway).
