I am done. This site has broken me. I am as staunch a conservative as you will find. After returning from Iraq, injured and upset, I turned here and found a welcoming community that shared my thoughts. I am a proud Gadsden Flag waiving man of the Tea Party movement. But because I don't think Sarah Palin is as historically important as other GOP women in the past, I am now considered an idiot, a RINO, ass-kisser and whatever negative connotation you can throw my way. This site has changed so much since that dictator want to be became President it sickens me. It's lost its sense of community and has ran off many a good person. Heck even the Tea Party seems to be distorted here.

I mean come on. Here you are saying that there were flame wars...on FR of all places (yea! Right!) and several people on this thread alone assure me that those unicorns were real!

I dunno. I mean anyone either signed up or lurking then never considered it tame that I remember. Most of the old timers were old Usenet people that were flamewar champions. Not merely veterans but CHAMPIONS forged in the most out of control ‘forums’ to be found.
This place was a barely controlled zoo at times... Perhaps the memories were blotted out for their trauma ;)
Yeah. Scar tissue. The parts I miss might not work so well with FR as big as it is now. I loved crossing swords with Ash. I really did.
Even the 08/12 PDS wars were brutal. Multiple THOUSAND post flamewars that began on post 2. Zots, Viking Kitties, pearls clutched furiously...
And that was just a few years ago. And they were DAILY. Sometimes several threads with over 1000 post flamewars daily.
Hell they are why I can type fast when I want to ;)
And that, folks, pretty well sums up what FR has become.

THAT is actually what’s ‘wrong’ here. Many posters would rather accept BS in the name of tolerating opposing views than having them stand up to an argument.

If they want to take you to task and blow your doors off, they tend to gang up, ping their lists, ping JimRob, and execute you on the spot.
It has happened to me countless times now.....I no longer keep track of it.
The best thing to do is walk away, take a few weeks off the forum and recompose yourself. You gain a certain amount of hardness and maybe little bit of hubris, every time this happens and it makes you better...stronger, smarter about arguments but not infallible.

The place is still a great source for info and instant news, and even if there are what seems to be people who want to purge you for having thoughts different from theirs. Even such a minor thing like your opinion of one politician. It's a good thing to know this and understand it. It will help you when times are tough and you might be called on to lead a group of people. Individuals are generally like cats. They like to be together but can't stay together long without a fight.. This is where a good leader or mentor is said to be better than another when they can manage these issues and not lose their perspective. Because that is how people are. Even those with common ideals. And you have to deal with it as a leader.
