Updating my medical condition and prayer needs [Update at #'s 843,721,643,910]

I have faith that the implant is going to help me...when they took the trial away it was like taking candy from a baby...it was cruel! And waiting so long for the permanent one is cruel too. I am praying I am making the right decision in getting this done. It’s a huge step and one that I struggled with at first. I remember the few days I had the temporary unit in my spine, my legs didn’t hurt, I could lay on my sides and they didn’t hurt! My right hip still hurt like crazy and my back was horrible and my stomach hated me from the buzzing, it would make me sick when I ate! But when the tech messed with the unit before it was removed, she got the buzzing out of my tummy and all the way up my back to the middle of my back! It felt so good, I hated when they took it away!!

Went to the doctor on Wednesday...he asked me how long have I been having the increased pain...I told him that I had complained to his Nurse Practitioner for a few months now and that she has told me “He’s not going to give you anything stronger, period”. He said “I’ll have to have a talk with her, I don’t like to see you in the much pain”. He asked if the percocet was working at all anymore and I said not so much...even when I take 2 of them at once. He said “quit taking those, I’m going to give you dilaudid instead, and give you a numbing PATCH to put on your back...leave it on for 12 hours then replace it with another” He wants to see me in 2 weeks to make sure my pain is being manage. I started the dilaudid a few days ago (as soon as I got through the pharmacy drive through) and so far it only helps at night when I take 2 of them with my nerve medicine and my sleeping medicine. I get the idea that the Nurse Practicianer could be losing her job for not talking to the doctor when I said I was in pain and she said I wasn’t getting anything stronger. She didn’t even TALK to the doctor, and I told him she said that and he confirmed that he didn’t know!

Just found out one of the meds the doc wants me on is not covered by my insurance and it is $275 for a one month supply....no way I will be getting that one. :( The medicine the doc wanted me using is a lidocaine patch, 12 hours each patch then replace it. They say since my insurance won’t cover the patch, they will do the cream instead...but I can’t reach my back to rub a cream on and I’m not comfortable asking my teenage son to rub a cream on my nude back (I am really fat). I am on gabapentin for nerve pain. I’m on amitriptiline 50 mg to help me sleep. As for the new medicine...one 2 mg dilaudid doesn’t do it. I take my middle of the night dose at bedtime...so I take 2 at bedtime as well as taking the gabapentin and amitriptiline. I manage to sleep with that cocktail but the rest of the day is still stiff and sore. I’m hoping I can get the patches so I can get some relief! They talk it up like it’s a miracle drug. Maybe I can find out the name of the manufacturer and see if they can help me get them.

Also, my procedure to implant the spinal cord stimulator is set for January 27th...same day surgery, will be home that night. Really look forward to it, though I’m still scared about having the unit in my spine.

Please, keep up the prayers. I appreciate them so much!

I thank God that the tumor from your abdomen will be removed!

As for the exploratory surgery, well, that is another round of blessings. You’ll find out what is wrong.

Blessings and Good luck!

Hiya, T. I am so sorry that I didn’t make it back the other day. Sleep finally came later that night, and then we had “our girls” over for a night shortly after that. I’m just now recovering from the torture that two 3-year old girls can bring about —— but with much needed smiles, love and laughter. I miss them so much!

I’m happy to read that something is moving in the right direction medically to tend to the problem of your loss of strength. And I will be so happy for you when you finally get that encapsulated tumor removed. The word “tumor” is enough to strike fear into anyone. I pray God that He ease your mind on this issue. Of course, I pray that you be healed completely soon.

Trying to catch up on your post and the comments a bit, I saw that you are going to face some housing problems soon, if I understand correctly that is. I think that I MAY be able to help you with contacting people on your behalf in your area if you would allow it. It’s iffy, but I will try my best. Would you be comfortable with me doing so?

Your circumstances and condition I’m all too familiar with. It seems that the sun is never going to shine again. It’s one problem after another to overcome. But, that’s exactly what you will do. Overcome.

Also noted was your “turn down” letter. That is actually good news, IIRC how the procedure goes after having been years away from those cases, and assuming it’s the same in your state.

You have the longest stretch behind you now, and even though I don’t like to tell anyone this, you could be approved before the hearing date is set. If not, know that you are now close to the main goal, that being the hearing. Things will move through the system rather quickly now that the waiting game is over. It’s just now, believe it or not, IN the system. [STANDARD LANGUAGE INSERTED HERE STATING THAT I AM NOT A LAWYER. THIS IS NOT TO BE CONSTRUED AS LEGAL ADVICE. SEEK LEGAL COUNSEL FROM YOUR ATTORNEY.]

Also, T, consider how God works. Suppose your landlord came and said that you owed a ton of money and tried to overcharge you and not discount from that sum the work you and your son have performed in lieu of payment. And suppose that that very same day your back pay showed up in the mail. Just something to think about.

You and yours have my love and my heart and my prayers. Please keep everyone posted!

Prayers, Love & Hugs a Heap,

SC

You are in my prayers and I’m giving thanks that you were able to get some sleep!

Cody’s “Court of Honor” at boyscouts is tonight. They are having a huge party because it is the 30th birthday for this troop. The VERY FIRST Eagle scout for this troop is going to be there as is the first scout master. Should be good, but I just KNOW I’m going to hurt when I get home.

As for the moving out issue...it would be best if we (cody and I) don’t rock the boat for the moment...so far, we are here and this is the best location for everything cody is involved in. (school, scouts and church). I’m praying it all works out when I get approved.

I’m always happy to get to hear how you are doing and look forward to your next update and post to me.

Love, hugs and prayers for you and yours.
T

The OR at the hospital called me. They had to reschedule my CT Milogram from the 28th to the 30th as Wednesday is the only day that the radiology and operating room cannot coordinate their efforts for a procedure. I hope they get what they need from this test as my hands are getting so bad, I broke a bowl and a glass while doing dishes. I can’t seem to hold on to things. It’s so upsetting. :(

Cody went to church today and someone asked about me. He told them about the problems and the pain I am having and we were blessed with a KFC dinner. The reason given is that since I am having so many problems with my hands and the pain as bad as it is, I shouldn’t be stressing my hands by trying to cook every day. It was so sweet and a major blessing. It was even one of the KFC dinners with the chocolate cake. My stomach doesn’t do too well with greasy foods, so I had the taters and gravy, mac and cheese and a small piece of the cake. That encapsulated tumor messes with me and doesn’t let me eat many things. I look forward to that being gone! Anyway, continued prayers are welcome. Thank you so much friends for all you do.

I have improvised applying ointment or cream to my back with an old (but not too rigid) rubber spatula (bowl scraper). Worked fine in a pinch, and I happened to have one that had an extra long handle.

Praying for you to find lasting pain relief!

I was very blessed by a wonderful freeper who helped me with a lotion applicator that I am able to use to apply the cream to my back. It worked very well, and then the doc discontinued the use on my back but told me to continue putting it on my hands. I still use it to put lotion and other creams to my back. I still use icyhot or bengay when I can get it. I’m out of all of that right now, but look forward to getting more when I can.

I am having a heck of a time with the itchies! (I’m sure it’s probably my medications). My back, face, hands...they all ITCH like crazy! I can’t reach the itch on my back with my hands so I have been known to grab a pair of scissors to scratch that part of my back. I gave myself a very long scratch on my shoulder and now have to be very careful when trying to scratch it. I have been putting some ointment on it to keep it from getting infected and the ointment has a pain reliever in it too. I’m using the applicator for that too.
