The Wonder Of The Cross

January 27, 2014

Read: Hebrews 12:1-4

[Look] unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross. —Hebrews 12:2
Bible in a Year:
Exodus 16-18; Matthew 18:1-20

While visiting Australia, I had the opportunity on a particularly clear night to see the Southern Cross. Located in the Southern Hemisphere, this constellation is one of the most distinctive. Mariners and navigators began relying on it as early as the 15th century for direction and navigation through the seas. Although relatively small, it is visible throughout most of the year. The Southern Cross was so vivid on that dark night that even I could pick it out of the bundle of stars. It was truly a magnificent sight!

The Scriptures tell us of an even more magnificent cross—the cross of Christ. When we look at the stars, we see the handiwork of the Creator; but when we look at the cross, we see the Creator dying for His creation. Hebrews 12:2 calls us to “[look] unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

The wonder of Calvary’s cross is that while we were still in our sins, our Savior died for us (Rom. 5:8). Those who place their trust in Christ are now reconciled to God, and He navigates them through life (2 Cor. 1:8-10).

Christ’s sacrifice on the cross is the greatest of all wonders!

When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride. —Watts
Christ’s cross provides the only safe crossing into eternity.

Prayer for the Unborn

Lord I pray this Sunday morn
for those souls that are not yet born
still a fetus in the womb
souls of love that you would groom

keep them from man's every whim
whose abortion rates are dismal grim
destroying those that you create
playing God with children's fate

they name it "choice" to soothe their guilt
dissolving that which you have built
to live and love in You abide
is ended in infanticide

of all the sins that man has wrought
this is the worst one of the lot
Lord, of this evil we repent
for killing of the innocent

woe to those on judgment day
who stand before you when you say,
" I judge you not, but to these I give,
these souls that you denied to live,

will judge you now at heavens gate
and hold the power of your fate
so hope their mercy will abound
for in you was no mercy found"

A wonderful poem, Fish Hawk. Good to see you are still writing beautiful poems. This touches the heart of those reading it with love.

Wonders surround us. We our selves (in our bodies are) fabulously designed and created. We so take it as a given and often do not learn or take excellent care of our bodies and minds and learn of Thee Father. God forgive us today for our failure to teach our youth and our peoples the truths of God. Forgive us LORD, we know not what we do, in Jesus name, amen.

Thank you for posting the poem it inspires this day.

What I Wanted To Be

What I wanted to be as a grownup,
Was a man, like my dad had once been,
He was faced with the challenge of living,
In a world where no thing was a sin.

He could have lolled in the barroom,
Getting drunk on the money he’d earned,
Instead of supporting a family.
He’d a choice, and the tempting was spurned.

In the rough circumstance of his township,
It was normal to act like a brute,
When your world is descending to chaos,
It’s great fun to jump into the chute.

Instead, he scrabbled and struggled,
Against all the odds so arrayed,
Pushing all of us higher and higher,
While others just sat there and stayed.

They stayed where their fate had propelled them,
Like weeds growing up in a crack.
But Dad had a loftier goal for himself,
And the rest of us stuck on his back.

So, sure, it would have brought comfort,
And ease from the day’s hurtful blows,
But a man like my Dad didn’t care for that,
So he lifted his burden and rose.

With confidence in his ability,
And faith that the Lord would provide,
He clambered aloft from the place he’d been tossed,
With a woman as good by his side.

So these are the ones that I emulate,
You others may do as you choose,
I will climb till I’ve gotten above all the fray,
And I’ve shed all the things I can’t use.

I’ve no room in my journey for hatred,
Or for jealousy making me weak.
I’m saving some room in my heart for the things,
That my trust in the Lord says to seek.

And strangely, the climbing gets easier,
As higher and higher we rise,
Somehow the goal seems much closer,
As its light finds its way to our eyes.

Thank you, LTOS.

Has the weather in Florida warmed up some? Our temps have been in the low 70’s but Thursday’s temps are forecast to be in mid 60’s. We may even get a little rain by the end of the week. Oh ... how great that would be.

Have a lovely day.
