Charles Krauthammer proposes two-tiered minimum wage
Daily Caller ^ | 12/30/2013 | Jamie Weinstein

I think what we really ought — what conservatives ought to do — is say if you can’t feed a family on this, and as a result of our lousy recovery a lot of people are depending on this wage, then I think for people who are the bread winners in a family, it ought to be raised.

...I think for people who are the bread winners in a family, it ought to be raised.…Because I do think if somebody is the only wage earner in the family, I think it would be humane to raise it to a level where they can cover their expenses.

This has got to be the most ridiculous idea, taking us back to the days when men were paid more than women for the exact same work because they were considered breadwinners. An employer pays an employee for the work produced, not for the personal circumstances of the employee.

No possibility of fraud against the gov't here, no sir.

The Kraut has not moved far philosophically from his days working for/with Mondale.

Just a thought but how about people don’t start a family until (1) they are making enough to support our own family, and (2) they are ready to give up the things that have to be set aside when a child depends on adults. A burger flipper isn’t worth more to the local fast food restaurant just because that person made decisions that he wasn’t ready for.

As of Jan 1, I believe 13 states will have the minimum $15.00 wage. It will be interesting to see what happens in the work force and product pricing.

I think they should have stayed in school...so they could get a decent job....and make enough to feed a family.

Or don't make "family" until you can afford it.

Most of these minimum wage jobs are kids or "old timers" (supplementing their SS) with no modern skills...not a dig...just the truth. And these kids are buying $100 sneakers...

Yes, Charles. And, I am in favor of a two-tiered “maximum” wage for so-called conservative journalists.

The ‘top-tier’ for the journalists being the top-tier wage you suggest for low-income family earners, and the bottom tier for actually what you are worth to me. Go away.

The scammers will jump on this free feed just like every other. The only safe way is total elimination of the so called safety net.

Why not $100 an hour? that’s as random as any other number.
Have a kid every year and get a raise?
New help-wanted signs at stores “Child-less only need apply”

Get divorced, lose custody and you don’t have to make child support payments ‘cuz you ain’t got no mo’ chedda’.
Lots o’ baby mammas would have to name the breeding stock that sired the whelp to help claim the additional salary.

Me thinks Chuck is off his meds.

Charles reveals himself. Still a shill for the left, albeit disguised as an intellectual conservative.

no...

because it’s IMPOSSIBLE!

It doesn’t matter if you raise it to $100 a hour, because then $100 wont be worth $100 anymore.

As soon as you double the minimum wage, inflation will simply double too.

All raising the minimum wage will do is create even high unemployment, drive companies to increase the pace of replacing people with machines, and stick it to seniors and savers by causing inflation to skyrocket. All while not affecting the person working for minimum wages ability to actually support a family off that wage one iota.

—in the same category as the suggestion some years ago by Patrick Buchanan that wages be tied to the number of children in a family—the more , the higher—

He advocates using the old military system in a civilian setting. I used to question why the military gave married men with wives and children extra pay and allowances. Pay should be based on ability and productivity, I don’t see how having dependents makes someone more valuable in the military or in a civilian job. Krauthammer has lost the last remaining shred of any confidence I ever placed in him.

There is, has always been, and shall always be one and only one minimum wage: $0.

Any so-called “minimum wage” law simply skews the market.

Wow, Krauthammer, I hardly knew ya. That has to be the most idiotic idea he’s ever come up with. Maybe sign of pre-altheimers?

The establishment right is already caving on this. Here it starts.

They won’t be happy until nobody is working.
