Peyton Manning set a huge NFL record on Sunday, and barely. A touchdown pass late in the second quarter to Demaryius Thomas broke Drew Brees' single-season record for passing yards by 1 yard.
Or did it?

That would be something .to have that reversed .and not get the all time passing yardage record. These QBs do have egos (needed to play that position, so that’s not a jab) - and he knew he had he record when he sat down.
Prudence would have indicated that he pick up a few more yards to be safe ...
Would they really go back and negate it? He should have played a little in the second half.
Plus or minus 7 yards, it makes no difference to me. He’s number one in my book........
...always always...some clown has to dig up some obscure measurement to see if it was real....did he also look through all the passes Brees threw for all his yards?.....did one of Brees receivers get more yards than he deserved?....did he notice one receiver got one yard too many?
They adjust stats (on Tuesday I think) pretty much every week. The record and those involved make this an interesting case. Peyton and Drew are both prominent in the NFL brand. Both squeaky clean, high achievers and represent the league well. If I had to hazard a guess, I think they will leave this alone. I can't think Goodell would relish the idea of explaining taking this record away to either Peyton or Archie.
If he was not a pale quarterback, Al Sharpton would be out in the streets right now.
Peyton Manning was named after a black man. All criticism is hereby declared racist. End of argument. Peyton gets the record!
Eight 5000+ yard passing seasons so far in the NFL. Four of them owned by one quarterback. And yet, the most impressive one to earn that mark no longer plays, and did it with fewer games.
I doubt they’ll negate the yards on that play.
After breaking the single season TD pass record, Manning modestly considered it “temporary” because it will be broken again by someone.
I’m pretty sure however that all that matters to Peyton Manning at this point is to win Super Bowls.
Manning sets a record and the long knives come out. Typical.
No, seriously, when a player sets a record in the course of the game and keeps on trucking, that's one thing, but when they carve out an exception just for the sake of setting the record and then letting up, well, Karma has a heck of a way of keeping things in balance. I think Karma knows Prudence.
I should think so. He's had individual records, seen them broken, and taken them back again (at least the single-season TD one, I'm sure thee are likely others) after a supposedly career-ending injury.
He really has nothing left to prove to anybody at an individual level - the only thing left is winning more titles.
I just watched the video. Looks like a lateral to me.
And just a little bit of information to the sports writers out there.....There is no such thing as a lateral. It's either a forward pass or a backward pass.
IMHO, it looked forward to me because his back would be turned if it was backwards.
Good point but there is nothing wrong with playing the entire season .Bree’s broke the old record very late in a game where the Saints were way ahead when he kept passing to break the record. Karma knows that, doesn’t she???
But we all know what is meant by “lateral’ - which was the term long before the term “backwards pass” came into vogue ..
Brady works for Karma, we’ll see :)
I have no idea what you mean by "his back would be turned if" - but that's not relevant. The ball was caught almost 2 full yards behind where it left Peyton's hand. It was not anywhere close to a forward pass.
