Parents of 6-year-old Amazing Johnson, were angered when they learned that school officials did not call 911 when their daughters fingertip was severed. Latesha Coleman, Amazings mother, told KRIV Fox 26, Hughes Road Elementary administrators called her but downplayed the severity of the students injury saying, "She told me that the nurse was working with Amazing, that Amazing is fine. She's being loved on by the nurse."

Then I considered the nature of today's press. If it was just skin it explains the schools reaction.
There’s a local radio host in Atlanta that occassionally goes on a rant about parents that give their daughters stripper names.
“And now the Gold Club is pleased to present on the center stage ...”
I once took a deposition of a 6'4" black man who admitted under oath that his birth name was "Precious". He went by his middle name, which thankfully was Robert.
LOL!
If a chunk of skin below the nail was cut off, then the mother and the journalist are overreacting. If anything more than that was severed, then they are under reacting. Which do you think is more likely?
I’d say that any injury that requires a trip to the ER requires a call to a parent.
What if the kid had an allergy to a particular med? What if the family was Jehovah’s Witness and a blood transfusion was contemplated, etc. There are a number of reasons why the parent should have been called, even if the finger tip was reattached. Shoot, I’d need the docs to tell me how to care for a reattached fingertip.
But that’s just the lawyer in me. It’s not that you have to sue, but people need to be called out on their stupid behavior. The next time, a kid could wind up dead or needlessly sickened.
I would say that any out of the ordinary requires a call to a parent.
Rather than send her to a medical clinic or a hospital, where they would need to get the permission of the parents, they were probably contemplating sending her to an abortion mill. That way they could keep the details of the accident away from the parents.
I do think that the made up names was last generation, the Laquishas and DeShawns. But look what Laquisha and deShawn are naming their kids. Real words. North. Amazing. I guess this is Generation Adjective.
OMG!
I know right. Freaky.
OK, before I even click on this article let me take a wild guess: Amazing Johnson - this kid is asian? Amish? White?
I don’t think the mother and reporter are underreacting. But, if we’re just talking about a fingernail, then they’re overreacting.
All’s well, though, now that whatever was lost was reattached.
LOL! That looks like something out of the Twilight zone.
Then I considered the nature of today's press.
You must take into one account...
The COLOR of the skin.
Or "at the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) Joint" to be even more clear.
The things you learn in about two years of physical therapy.
;)
Maybe her middle name is Grace. Ya gonna name a girl Dweezil Grace? I don’ think so....
Life is so strange all you can do is laugh sometimes, PM, because what you say can become true. As you know, some states are requiring that abortion providers have residency status at the nearest hospitals to them. Little Amazing could be taken to an abortion clinic where the records are sacrosanct, then to the hospital under the imprimatur of the abortion clinic, and she could have her entire hand amputated.
And no one would owe an explanation to the parents.
