There are also traditional word problems. Twitchy has found a word problem that may be the most egregiously awful math problem the Common Core has produced yet.
Take a look:
15. Juanita wants to give bags of stickers to her friends. She wants to give the same number of stickers to each friend. She's not sure if she needs 4 bags or 6 bags of stickers. How many stickers could she buy so there are no stickers left over?

1. Convert 0.2 into a fraction.
a. 1/5
b. 11/50
c. 2/9
d. 2/7
2. What is the decimal expansion of 5/6?
a. 0.(56)
b. 0.83
c. 0.56
d. 1.2
Answers and Explanations
1. C: When converting a decimal whose value repeats itself indefinitely, write the repeating digit or digits in the numerator. In this problem, the repeating digit is 2. In the denominator, place 9 for every repeating digit, then reduce the fraction to lowest terms. In this problem a single 9 is in the denominator, so the answer is 2/9. Another example is 0.‾24= 24/99=8/33
2. B: 5/6 can be rewritten as 5÷6=0.83 ?
As you can see, the answer to question 1 is nonsense (real answer is, of course, a). The answer to 2 although mathematically accurate is in the form of a question.
Eek! The morons are in charge of education!
y/x=2
y=number of bags
x=number of friends
2 because it is the lowest even number
I didn’t factor governments cut.
What happens if she has 13 friends?
ROFLMAO!!! So true!
X + Y = 10. Solve for X.
X = 10 - Y
Any answer is wrong because there simply isn’t enough information to solve this problem. I’m inclined to believe this is a hoax.
What if she has 7 friends?
Marked as required. To answer the question, I noted that Maisie's number line was 7/8 as long as Dan's, so I expanded it by 114% < 8/7 using MS paint, and noted that her jump must be greater then Dan's if both number lines are scaled to the same length. So the answer is "Maisie".
I think it’s a hoax too. As I mentioned above, I saw the same alleged question on another site, but featuring “Sally” giving out “balloons”. There was no link to verify it as actually originating from CC.
There’s enough wrong w CC w’out making stuff up. If anyone has a good link to the original CC question, however, then obviously it’s real. Just haven’t seen one so far.
Ralph Kramden, regarding Ed Norton’s answer on a math quiz:
“If you were heating your own home, and oil was 12 cents a gallon and it went up seven percent, and coal, at the same time, was $14 a ton, and that went up nine percent, well, what would you do?
What do you think Norton says? Pack up and move to Florida.”
It is stated that she has determined that she will need either 4 or 6 bags. This is then a “given”. A secret protocol, perhaps.
I'd never run across CC material before but if what I've seen just now is any indication, it's a freaking nightmare.

X + Y = 10. Solve for X.
X = 10 - Y
and since Y = 10 - X, X = 10 - Y becomes
X = 10 - (10 - X)
X = 0 + X = X
X = X
lol.
“Nightmare” is the word for it. Here is a very well researched article that traces the CC roots straight back to radical leftism/Bill Ayres, etc.:
LOL. Good one.
