After 19-year-old Tyler Comstock quarreled with his father and drove off in his truck, the elder Comstock decided to teach him a lesson by reporting the truck to the police as stolen.
Soon after, cops chased down Tyler and shot him to death despite receiving orders from dispatch to cease their pursuit.
On Monday, an argument broke out between Tyler and his father, James Comstock, who refused to buy his son a pack of cigarettes. Tyler stormed off and left in his fathers truck, which is owned by a lawn care company.
Cops pursued Tyler to the nearby Iowa State University campus in Ames, Iowa. During the chase, Comstock rammed a police vehicle at least once, according to reports.
Still, a recently released audio file revealed that dispatchers twice instructed police to stop following Comstock. The officers did not obey.
The truck eventually came to a stop in the middle of campus property, at which point police ordered Comstock to turn off the engine. Instead, the 19-year-old revved it, prompting Ames Police Officer Adam McPherson to fire six shots into the truck. Two of them hit Comstock, killing him at the scene.

“Is it possible that one of the rammings by the cops bashed the kids head into the drivers side window and disoriented him?”
Not really. I watched the dash-cam video. What happened was, when the truck came to a stop the cop jumped out of his car and fired several shots killing the driver. You can hear the motor revving after he was shot. Ya’ll can look at the dash cam and get back to me if you hear any warning.
The video paints a horrible picture of how dangerous this kid was being. I do not fault the police at all for this shooting.
Probably because he would have run the truck on the rims. The driver already performed a few major felony actions with disregard for the safety of the public before he was shot.
And shooting tires out in the open could get bystanders killed.
When he gets rammed and the truck slides into that big tree, it looked like his head smacked the window pretty good.
His dad is a moron.
Things are so different than when I was a teen.
Pulling a stunt like this would have never, *ever* occurred to me.
The cops in pursuit didn't know all those details. In this case the kid got what he asked for.
After watching the video I'd guess the cops will justifiably say the truck had to be stopped and only they could make that call after witnessing the drivers behavior. Sad all the way around.
In some places they have policies for cops not to engage in high speed chases under some circumstances because innocent people get hurt.
It looked to me like the cops shot immediately without warning. I didn’t hear them telling him to put his hands up or anything.
More like murder by cop. Read the article. Police apologists are pathetic.
Did the father get his truck back?
I’m not sticking up for what the kid did, but in the video the driver didn’t start driving like a maniac until the cops turned on their siren.
I guess. I couldn’t see his head. I did see the cop bail out of the car and fire 6 shots. Rapidly. I must have missed the warnings telling him to turn off the truck tho. But I don’t think I did.
If I had to guess, I’ll bet he was on probation. And figured if he got pulled over he was going back to jail. And he wasn’t going back to jail so....Reason I say this is that is exactly what happened to a kid about the same age here in town. Except instead of getting shot he wrecked his truck and died.
I did read the article. That’s why I made the comment.
“It looked to me like the cops shot immediately without warning. I didnt hear them telling him to put his hands up or anything.”
Huh..Me either. We must be cop haters or something.
Probably the latter.
Probably sarcasm.
Probably the latter.
Probably sarcasm.
Second line was meant to be italicized as well.
Dad called the cops for a reason - the kid was out of control and dangerous.
Good shooting, in my book. If he was aiming that truck at me, I'd have shot him in a heartbeat.
For one thing he didn’t “ram” any police vehicle, he was trying to make a sharp turn and bumped the front of the police car.
yeah, these are union government worker thugs in some cases....with cop uniforms.
