I’d like to see your jell-o salad recipe.

I’ll post mine tomorrow evening. It’s at home in my recipe book. One ingredient is pie cherries - not filling - which are hard to find.

I was able to post the Sopapilla Cheesecake recipe because I keep it in my phone because so many people ask for it! Lol! And it’s sooooo easy!

My family LOVES jello salad — the more like dessert, the better. I’d really like to try the coca cola version as a special treat this Thanksgiving.

The one I usually make for Thanksgiving goes like this:

2 small packages red gelatin
2 cups boiling water
1 cup cold water
1 can strawberry pie filling
8 ounce package cream cheese, softened
8 ounce container frozen whipped topping, thawed
8 ounce can crushed pineapple, drained

Instructions

1. Dissolve gelatin in boiling water. Mix together first four ingredients; pour into a 13”x9” dish. Chill until firm. Combine remaining ingredients; blend well and spread on top of the gelatin mixture.

There are never any leftovers and the kids always ask that I make it.

I treasure my childhood memories of family holiday gatherings, too.

I’ve been very blessed and I’m grateful.

I know what you mean…you start eating Grandma’s or Mom’s recipe when you are barely old enough to hold your head up and it kind of grows on you. Traditions are good. Unfortunately, two of our kids turned vegetarian and won’t eat the turkey or stuffing…that hurts!

Bless you. I think I might just have to do a test run of this cheesecake tomorrow - you know, just to make sure it’s fit for human consumption. Exploding butter in the nuker is something I do really well!

Re the coke jello salad. I don’t really have a recipe. Just use a package of red jello, instead of cold water use Coke - and not the diet kind either. I add a can of frozen regular cherries very well drained if I can find them, fresh if I can’t. Stir in some chopped nuts and on occasion I add a can of well drained pineapple spears if I have them. Most of what I choose to add to a jello-o salad depends on what’s in the frig or cupboard. Stir it up really well before you put in the frig and then stir it up again before you serve.

All good stuff. I know for sure I’m going to fix your salad for Thanksgiving. Probably not as a dessert though because everyone in my family likes a different kind of pie so we always have pecan with ice cream, pumpkin with real whipped cream, key lime, black bottom and chocolate. Drives me crazy but it’s only once a year so....

Thanks for sharing.

Leftovers!

There is nothing better then taking a couple of left over rolls and stuffing them with turkey, dressing and a bit of cranberry relish.

Mmmmm.

I’ll go with that. My favorite combo is stuffing ( from the turkey! ) with gravy and cole slaw. There’s a delicious mess if there ever was one.

Growing up my mother always made Pumpkin, chocolate, and lemon pies for Thanksgiving. The next morning it some how became a tradition to have a slice of each of those for breakfast along with a slice of turkey and some stuffing.

The first year we were married my wife and I had Thanksgiving dinner at our apartment. I get up the next morning start the ritual and my new bride looks at me like UI have just gone off the deep end. I explain the tradition to her, and now 26 years later I have to race her to the fridge on Friday morning.

Sounds yummy! Worthy of an experiment to try to duplicate an old Entenmann’s recipe, Pineapple Cheese Strudel.

Gin & Tonic before the meal.

As for the meal itself, I make an awesome sausage stuffing. My brother in law cuts the bird; I defer to his expertise.

After dinner, a bit more gin and it’s time for the Cowboys. More gin if they play badly.

I understand, I have one of those.. I keep wondering what I did wrong.. LOL

I keep the faith, that it is just some passing fad with him, but he had a girlfriend that turned him into this gargoyle.. :)

I make dressing the same way; the sausage is the foundation, really. I also simmer the neck and giblets while the bird cooks, and use the broth to moisten.

My younger son will fight you over the dressing. He loves it.

I haven’t tried the eggs, either. I could see making the upgrade this year.

Gravy from pan drippings; my technique is to put some of the pan juice and a some of the leftover giblet broth in a jar with the flour. With the lid on tightly, shake the jar vigorously. Slowly pour the mixture into the boiling remainder of the pan juice. No lumps, very even texture.
