I miss America when it was Decent and Good
Vanity | 9/4/2013 | Self

Posted on 09/04/2013 10:16:05 AM PDT by sr4402

I miss America when men were supposed to be decent and good. I miss America when pregnant women were Not sent to the front lines in combat. I miss America when it tried to live within it's means and on a budget. I miss America when religion was considered to be good rather than to be suppressed.

My children miss America, when school lunches were OK and they didn't consider it vomit and went hungry for lack of calories. They miss being told to consider things for themselves rather than being told by the government.

My children will miss when government promoted one man, one woman to make good citizens instead of using those who jumped over our fences. My children will miss being able to choose health insurance for themselves and their families instead to be forced into useless, expensive and limiting govenment healthcare.

Lord, I miss America.

Yes... and all must be taken in context.

America was (and in a fading sense still is) a witness of what happens when a country is founded on firm biblical belief.

It’s also now a witness of what happens when said belief fades away.

That said — artifacts, even the best moral teaching found in the bible itself, pale next to the actual living Lord and exalting Him.

Sometimes we get so jaded about the Light that the Lord has to let it get dark enough that we go looking for it. This has been happening for many decades. The witnesses are many. Idolatries can be both positive AND negative... negative idolatries are reflected in our modern propensity to blame the material world for things that hell is the instigator of. Whether that be guns (hey liberals) or drugs (hey conservatives). Gospel power would render these “menaces” impotent because it would press back mightily against the authorities of hell who seek to move people to misuse them.

I also think if we had a town or county or state filled with all you folks, and hundreds of other freepers like you, we could create the kind of community with the morals and manners we remember, along with a government that was back to what our founding fathers envisioned. It would be very much like the great old America. As someone said, we are just too spread out and outnumbered right now. But I’m going to keep working and praying and not give up!

Spread out, yes, maybe.

Outnumbered? No way. It may seem it, because the other side is full of loud mouth POSs that own the media and megaphones...

But I think, boxlunch, you’ll find we are still a majority in this land of ours... demoralized, down, a bit disgusted overall, but still a force to be reckoned with.

This is a battle in a much larger war... and it’s far from over.

Five years older than my brother, he died at 23.

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930's 40's, 50's, 60's and 70’s!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, and tuna from a can.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.

As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags. Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-Aid made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because. WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day.

And we were OK.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Play-stations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound, CD's or I-pods, no cell phones!, no personal computers , no Internet or chat rooms.......

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned

HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!

If YOU, are one of them, CONGRATULATIONS!

The quote of the month is by Jay Leno:
"With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks,” Are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"

That is beautiful. Thank you. I’m 53 and I remember that America.

How I wish I could bequeath that country to my children, instead of the putrid, squalid mess the America-hating Left has made it.

Well that proves that there was actually a time in America when even a few Democrats (the ones from the South in particular) weren't totally evil. In fact, one of those good Democrats was from right here in Texas, representing the Second, where Patriot Ted Poe now serves. That was Martin Dies. He, as much as anyone, led the way for the great Senator Joseph McCarthy.

Dies, pictured above, was solidly anti-communist and also opposed the socialism of Franklin Diablo Roosevelt. Through a Democrat, Martin Dies also fought against labor unions.

There was a time in America when not all Democrats were necessarily bad and not all Republicans were good. I think back to leftist members of the GOP such as Bob LaFollete, Jacob Javits and the notorious Earl Warren. The latter was the subject of roadside signs during the time I came of age.

Other people could do it much better

I beg to differ. If you can turn out posts on a website that are this wonderful, imagine what you could do if you sat down and wrote a book.

When I was a kid, we used to take old license plates and strap them on top of roller-skates. Then we would go out in the street, from the top of a hill and ride that sucker all the way down!

WOOHOO!
