WASHINGTON - A nearly 2,600-year-old clay cylinder described as the world's first human rights declaration is being shown for the first time in the United States.
The Cyrus Cylinder from ancient Babylon ...
The cylinder carries an account, written in cuneiform, of how Persian King Cyrus conquered Babylon in 539 B.C. and would allow freedom of worship and abolish forced labour. The account also confirms a story from the Bible's Old Testament, describing how Cyrus released people held captive to go back to their homes, including the Jews' return to Jerusalem to build the Temple.

thanks for the info,
Ironic, that its in Washington, at a time when we would be well served to consider the role Cyrus played fulfilling Gods plan and for the role of Babylon, vs. what we’re about to perform dividing Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria,
I had planned to spend some time in the British Museum in London in a few months just to see this very artifact,
hmm. . this isn’t good,
I saw this in the British Museum and also the Code Of Hammurabi just a few days before that in The Louvre. I’m a museum nut wherever I travel, focused mostly on ancient cultures.
The Elgin Marbles (the surviving frieze of The Parthenon) just blew my head off. My wife had to yank me out by my hair after an hour.
I can’t even begin to describe visiting the British Museum, The British War Museum, and The Louvre in the same week. Our feet were like bloody pegs, but oh the dreams I had.
Hopefully Obammy won’t get his hands on it.
The entire Sutton Hoo exhibit was out on loan when I visited The British Museum and Vermeer’s ‘The Lacemaker’ was not in The Louvre at the time. I was really sorry to miss the Sutton Hoo helmet.
I did get to see a Japanese National Treasure Sword on loan to the British Museum. If there was ever such thing as a genuine magic sword, that katana was one of them.
OK....it's in cursive.
That sounds fantastic. You are a museum visitor who truly appreciates those displays.
I hope that the situation in Egypt calms down, for you would find the Cairo museum also very wonderful to visit.
So did Obama request it be brought to the United States to show that Christians and Muslims could live peacefully together, in harmony and understanding and respect of each others religion? Ha!
One of the Hoos down in Hooville?
Hoo-Dat?
Yeah, maybe they’re pitching as a ‘see, powerful leaders are benevolent, too’ kind of subtext. What they don’t want the attracted attention to learn is what other sort of things dear old Cyrus was up to. Washed in blood by conquering his then known world and proclaiming himself ruler of the four corners of the earth is a bit outside the feel-good philosophies of most sheeple. Oh well, it’s stoke the hunger for a really nice and kind despot to take them up into his lap and wipe away their tears.
You missed seeing Vermeer’s “The Lacemaker”, but “Girl with a Pearl Earring” is now on exhibit in Atlanta.

For a second I thought this was a thread about an x rated film starring Billy Ray Cyrus....
Wouldn't work in islamic countries - murdering innocents is way more fun.... /s
But of course, the Babylonian empire lasted for thousands of years and is still in power today, right?
Oh, wait, they say it only lasted several hundred years, about the same as could be said about the US under the “Constitution,” whatever that was. Someday maybe we will find this Constitution thing, and see what it said. It may be buried under Washington, DC, somewhere.
Isn’t ancient history fun!
