One evening when she was 14 years old, Laura Scott was washing dishes in the kitchen with her mother when she decided she didn't want to have a child. At 26, Scott got married and waited for her mind to change. "It never happened," she says. "And I realized I was going to be fine." Now 50, Scott is more than fine: she's fulfilled. And she's not alone. The birthrate in the U.S. is the lowest in recorded American history. From 2007 to 2011, the most recent year for which there's data, the fertility rate declined 9%. A 2010 Pew Research report showed that childlessness has risen across all racial and ethnic groups, adding up to about 1 in 5 American women who end their childbearing years maternity-free, compared with 1 in 10 in the 1970s.

Yep, lots of fun but also worries with the way the world and this country is directed.
These people are truly impoverished.
My heart goes out to those who are childless, but not by choice.
BTW, couples who choose childlessness deliberately aren’t really married, since one of the primary purposes of marriage is the begetting and raising of children.
—— it’s a blessing these types of people do not have children because they would not be fit parents if they did. ——
I’m tempted to say the same thing, but having children changes most people. It makes people less self-centered. I’ve seen many examples of this in my own experience.
Well, worldly and Godly definitely have overlap in the sense that He created the universe and the natural laws which control it, and gave humanity rules to live by for our benefit. So although sex outside of marriage and using devices and methods to prevent conception and kill offspring are sinful, they also have consequences in the world. Rampant non-marital sex taking away any potential for procreativity guarantees not just personal weight on the heart of being displeasing to God, but sows increadible presonal and societal destruction that is just now starting to bear rampant fruit. I mean huge harvests.
-— Although the article didn’t give a theory as to why this should be, I immediately thought, “This is the day care generation.” I.e., children who were abandoned to day care centers when they were small, will not bond properly with their parents — and may not feel any particular duty toward them when their parents become old and infirm -—
This is scarier than a Stephen King movie.
In order for “sexually active” people not to have children, they either need to be using means to prevent conception, or killing offspring, or engaging in sodomy.
All of which are personally damaging, and in the case of killing offspring, causing maximum harm to others.
IOW, people choosing to not have children are harming themselves thereby. Unless they live a celibate chaste life without sex, which of course is the foolproof way to not have children.
I've talked to my older children about that. I've told them that it's entirely possible that everything they've known in their youth, will change dramatically within their lifetimes.
I sometimes feel like Sarah Connor of the Terminator movie when I talk to them. Remember that? In the movie, she raised her son knowing what the future held for him, and he survived to lead the resistance because of it.
These are horrifying thoughts, but we must confront what is, and tell our children the truth of what we know, to the best of our ability.
-— When I was born there were about 200 million. We were fine then. Why do we need 300 million? -—
What need have we for the surplus population?
< eye roll> Have you ever travelled our country? It’s EMPTY!
If all the illegals were gone, our country would probably be about 40 million or more less people.
Then there are the legal immigrants.
Look at countries in EU or in Japan. Their populations are plummeting. The only reason the EU countries don’t look eerily empty is because of all the Mozlems.
The lack of stability in this nature in our welfare/government union economy is IMO staggering.
-— I personally think her change of heart had more to do with her parents and his parents making out their wills. I believe they were giving bigger percentages to the children who had children. -—
Forget Charles Manson, this is one of the most horrifying stories I’ve ever heard.
And yet this monster is accepted in polite society.
I’m as against redistribution as you are. I’m raising my substantial brood of children to hate it and vote against it at every opportunity. But whatever the outcome of that battle, population control is the far greater evil.
Yep, and it's completely unsustainable. The idiots in Washington and the White House keep jack hammering away at the pillars that hold up the country, and expecting them not to collapse.
How many warnings do we read every day on this very website? Warnings not from google eyed paranoids, but intelligent, thoughtful, and wizened people?
It's why Americans are arming up and stockpiling basic necessities like crazy. The lunatics are running the asylum and they're scaring the people to death.
verga: “And for those of us that can’t have children, and that adoption has not worked out, what do you suggest?”
Read Matthew 19:12. There’s absolutely nothing morally wrong about not being able to reproduce. If your lot in life is to be childless, then make the most of that. It’s even admirable to go childless in order to better pursue the Lord’s will, but that’s a difficult task for most people. Meaning? Most people want to have sex, and most of those want children. There is only one morale way to do both. Get married.
BTW, that means to the opposite sex. Two members of the same sex cannot get “married” even if the state dares call it that. A same-sex “marriage” don’t have the necessary elements to create a physical and spiritual union and offspring.
St_Thomas_Aquinas: “Im tempted to say the same thing, but having children changes most people. It makes people less self-centered.”
I think statistics bears that out. Married women tend to vote far more conservatively than single ones for example. I’m not saying childless couples don’t care about the future, but having children means a person actually has an investment in the future. That’s part of the reason I’m conservative. I want to conserve the liberty, self reliance, and individual morality that set America apart from the vast majority of nations.
little jeremiah: “I mean huge harvests.”
Well, we reap what we sow (in this case, for not sowing). We see that proven all the time in our private lives. Yet, somehow we think government can get away with doing the very same (negative/destructive) things on a much larger scale.
Windflier: “The idiots in Washington and the White House keep jack hammering away at the pillars that hold up the country, and expecting them not to collapse.”
I couldn’t have written it better myself, except Obama is well past jack hammering. I think he’s using C4. The guy is literally ignoring whatever law he doesn’t like. Not only that, but he’s advocating for perversion (homosexuality) on a mass scale.
I have a (heterosexual female) friend that worked in the fashion industry for years. When we would see same sex couples together she would remind me that "One of them is missing correct accessories." I blew Congeal out my nose the first time she said it.
Pretty close. Heck, I was born in Santa Barbara and thought LA already had too many people.
