I've been a yahoo e-mail user for over 15yrs and Yahoo has come up with a new policy for users to be implemented sooner than later.
I realize that all communications are now being scanned & archived by the fed gov't but I do feel Yahoo is going above & beyond and really pushing for advertising dollars. It burns me,too,& that's why I want out. I'm not partial to gmail or outlook.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a free email service that is reputable and has a modicum of privacy? I would appreciate your comments and suggetions.

Don’t panic. All your e-mail at Yahoo has been scanned and archived up ‘til now anyway. I’m skeptical there are any truly private e-mails.
I’ve heard advertisements for the Reagan.com e-mail service. I think its about 40 bucks a year or so. I thought I might try that.

I’ve used umgud@fr.com for 15 years and it works pretty good. I have been audited 13 time though. I’m guessing that’s a coincidence.
I suppose it has the advantage, for only $40/year, of allowing me to make believe my privacy is protected.
I’ll agree with #5, I’ve had AOL since 1995 when you had to pay for it. AOL webmail is still my primary email even though I now also have Yahoo and a few others.

Also, Microsoft has recently revised their online email service, IIRC.
[My problem with any web based services is that they can disappear without much advanced notice. Over the years, I have lost some data because a service just quit.]
I have another email service I have used for years. Initially, it was in English, but they dropped the English portion several years ago. The site is in German — which I don’t read or speak. But I still get emails at that address and can fumble my way around the site to read and delete my emails.
Buy a domain name and a pop e-mail account from Big Daddy. I’m pretty sure you can access your e-mail from the web on Big Daddy, as well as with an e-mail client and their prices are usually pretty competitive. That way you can name your own domain and e-mail name and know you are not going through some portal like MS, Yahoo, Gmail, etc, which you know all save, read, snoop, scan, and sell your info to advertisers.

I have several .com addresses without websites through GoDaddy.
A .com address is about $10.00 per year (search for discounts on the web).
With a .com registration at GoDaddy you have an email account for no additional charge. It’s fairly easy to setup and it’s all yours. Have some fun with it!
I have a friend - let’s call her ‘Jane’ and her favorite number is 9. I helped her get the domain www.jane9.com (you see what I mean).
Now her email address is jane@jane9.com (so to speak). Easy to remember.
If you do not want to go that route StartPage.com is doing a very private email service though I have not looked into it.

It seems to me that they should make it a banner headline (at least for a day)...
Hushmail is free but you have to make sure you log in once every three weeks or your account gets permanently disabled. They are trying to force you to buy a paid account. You can reopen a disabled account by subscribing.
It is encrypted when you send email to other hushmail users, so it is about as private and secure as you can get for free.
I’ve been using Google “Gmail” for several years now. It seems pretty secure to me and I don’t think Google really pays much attention to what I send and receive with it.
