Stonington A Quaker Hill man was charged with reckless driving Saturday after police say he drove 139 miles per hour on Interstate 95.
Stewart V. Williams, 25, of [Adress redacted by Moi --TSR], Quaker Hill, was charged with reckless driving, greater than 85 mph.
According to State Police, Williams was traveling northbound near exit 92 when a trooper used a laser clock to read the speed of his 2012 Audi R8 at 139 miles per hour in a 65-miles-per-hour zone. Williams was stopped and taken into custody. He was released on a $500 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear at GA 10 in New London on May 17.
Let’s try it again!!
: )
I remember driving through the Spessart Mountains just East of Frankfurt one night. 140mph for over thirty minutes, when I was passed by what may have been the same Mercedes sedan.
Where else can you drive that fast and have somebody pass you?
Reckless driving gonna put a hurtin’ on his insurance premiums; he will likely have to go to a high-risk carrier when those points kick in. UNLESS he can find a mechanic to come and testify that the accelerator was stuck or some such. Or the judge takes mercy on him (unlikely in both cases).
“I got up to 140 in my Z-28 and it felt like I was gonna go air born any second”
Got to 140 in my LS 400, before I backed off. There was still pedal left. At about 90, the car hunkered down to the road, and felt very stable. I had 120 miles to go to get to Nashville, and I thought, “I could be there in an hour!” Then I came back to my senses.
I was only doing 70 (in a 55) when I crested the hill and was pulled over by the State Boys, otherwise I would probably still be in jail.
The last five or six years I lived in Seattle I got pulled over about three times a year. I averaged about one ticket a year. But I learned one thing: If you are pulled over by a motorcycle, you are getting a ticket. Period. That doesn’t mean they can’t be nice. One time on a beautiful summer day I was in my convertible after getting dropped off at the park and ride. I got nailed in a 25 mph zone doing 42 and had expired tabs (by a couple of weeks) no proof of insurance and I was not wearing my seat belt. The motorcycle cop gave me a ticket for going 35 in a 25 and told me to wear my seatbelt.
I used to live and work up there.
To think I was stopped over the Connecticut in a rental for work travel for going 65 in a work zone. Boo hoo. And it was the first Kia in the country, so new they didn’t even have a name. Cop didn’t know what to write and neither did I. (Sportage)
Audi R8, top speed around 200 mph.
Anecdotal. They also call motorcycle riders “organ donors” even though I used to ride a lot and I know a lot of guys in their 60’s that have ridden their entire lives, yet I only hear stories of guys that got maimed or killed except for one kid that broke his wrist not paying attention to traffic. He wasn’t even doing anything illegal.
Still, safety is a relative term. But your recommended punishment is grossly unwarranted. Drunk driving is different, however.
140mph in a 1968 Dodge Charger R/T 440 Magnum. Believe it was rated at 375 hp, which is a complete lie, it had to be a lot more.
Back in 1959 I locked up the speedometer in my Dads 56 Buick Super. Dad liked recap tires. The whole cap blew off two tires and left me running on the casings.
The guy at the recap place couldn’t believe it. Never saw a two caps come off like that.
4 barrel and dual exhaust. all the kids thought that heavy old car wouldn’t run. I kicked all of their butts with that old car on the drag. Nothing would run with it on the run.
Used to work for parts store. Owner and his daughter had MK IIIs as well as others. She went out partying 1 night with 1 of our younger workers and got too drunk to drive. Jeff claims he drove that MK III 120 mph down 70 across the county. I was envious he could drive it, but even though I liked him I thought that was horribly irresponsible!
LOL - post of the day!
I did 75 in my old Corola once...
Police officer: Do you know what the speed limit is here?
PDZM: 65.
Police officer: Do you know how fast you were going?
PDZM: Faster than 65.
I got nailed in northern Wyoming doing 146 late one night. I could see for miles and no one was around. I slowed from 160 because I saw the cop a few miles out. $200 ticket, no points. He only wrote me up for 106 to avoid a felony and he wanted to go home as it was the end of shift. For the record, a 1996 Acura TL can do 160+.
131 in my old 280z. 240kph (150mph) sustained on the autobahn (in a rental car). In rural desert areas I regularly see how fast the rental car can go in the US...they almost always have a governor between 105 and 110.
We were doing over 125 in a BMW over the Austrian alps when we started hydroplaning across one of those scenic bridges-you know, the kind that is about 6,000 feet from the ground. We all about wet our pants. That was the last time we tried that.
