The Tim Tebow era is over in New York.

The Jets have released Tebow, the New York Post is reporting.

Tebow was widely expected to be on the way out for months, and the only surprise is that the Jets waited until now to do it. The arrival of rookie quarterback Geno Smith in the second round of the NFL draft may have been what it took for the Jets to decide that there was simply no room for Tebow on the roster anymor

Why not? He threw for over 300 yards in the playoff win against the Steelers.

<><><><

He threw for 236 in regulation. Pedestrian at best.

The 80 in overtime? A defensive breakdown. A ball caught on the 38 yard line on the left hash resulting in a touchdown down the right sideline is nothing but failed defense.

Don’t get me wrong though, I loved Tebow at the time. I’m a Ravens fan and he humiliated the Steelers D.

Not every QB in the Hall of Fame has great stats, but they are all winners.

From espn.com --

Tim Tebow is one of five quarterbacks over the past 30 years to complete fewer than 48 percent of his passes with a minimum of 300 attempts in his first three NFL seasons.

Quarterback -- Pct. -- 1st Year
Tim Tebow -- 47.9 -- 2010
Akili Smith -- 47.4 -- 1999
Heath Shuler -- 47.7 -- 1994
Steve Beuerlein -- 46.8 -- 1987
Bubby Brister -- 45.2 -- 1986

Can you name an HoF QB with a lower than 50% completion percentage?

Namath was right at 50% for his career. He also had more interceptions than touchdowns.

If Tebow were to sign with the Pats he would be competing with D Fells (ex teammate) and Hooman for a spot backing up A Hernandez. Ballard will be backing up Gronk.

Gronk if he can stay healthy will be in the HOF BB doesn’t jettison guys like that easily.

How about comparing winning percentages?

50 years ago it was a different game.

Tebow took an 0-4 team and went 9-5 the rest of the way.

(Obviously a fluke)

Manning started out with a somewhat better team and went 2-3.

(Another fluke I'm sure)

This is the evidence of him stinking:

47.9% completions for his career. 17 TDs, 9 INTs, 7 fumbles.

Just plain not good.

It's a team game - good defenses and running games have carried many a merely adequate quarterback.

It’s one of the worst starts for a QB in his first five years in recent NFL history. It’s Akili Smith/ Heath Shuler territory.

Nice try, but the Broncos won in spite of Tebow, not because of him.

Tebow's apostles love to point to his fluke Steelers win while ignoring the following week's Pats game --

9 for 26, 136 yards, 0 TD

<<><><><><

LOL.

He took a 1-4 team (The broncs beat cincy in game 2), proceeded to go 7-1 before finishing the season 1-4.

We both presented absolutely factual information (well except you had the broncos record wrong when tebow first started). Why does yours look so much better for Tebow than mine?

Funny how when the team wins, it's not due to Tebow, and every good play is luck. Manning starts with Denver losing and of course that's somebody else's fault, not to mention his playoff loss.

Here's a different look at why Tebow is a winner.

8-5 vs 9-5 isn't all the big a difference and he did have the playoff win. It's a really good season for a young QB.

I was sort of pointing out that the last 5 games of the season were nothing like the previous 8.

The Broncos record in their first 5 games (1-4) was the same record as in their last 5 games (1-4).

That record (1-4) got Orton benched.

IIRC Jax wanted him but he chose the Jets. If so, then the the flea bites he suffers are his own doing.
