The Tim Tebow era is over in New York.

The Jets have released Tebow, the New York Post is reporting.

Tebow was widely expected to be on the way out for months, and the only surprise is that the Jets waited until now to do it. The arrival of rookie quarterback Geno Smith in the second round of the NFL draft may have been what it took for the Jets to decide that there was simply no room for Tebow on the roster anymor

When you trade away a player, you’re not trying to “promote his chances”. You’re trying to get as much as you can for him. Football is a business.

John Elway wasn’t trying to sabotage Tebow’s career. He was trying to make a good deal.

He didn’t get a fair chance in my opinion.

<><><><

An absolutely fair statement, one I’d argue a bit (11 reg season starts plus 2 playoff starts is certainly a fair chance in my book), and he failed to impress.

It’s worth noting that the teams Tebow beat in his 11 regular season starts in 2011 included but 2 teams that finished with winning records in 2011.

There is no doubt in my mind that Tebow is a gamer. A guy you want on your team - but not as the QB, but so far he has refused to look at playing another position.

Gotta love how even here at FR the Tebow haters come out in full force. “He’s not a good QB”... you’re all full of sh!t. I think you enjoy the anti-Tebow bandwagon.

He was an exceptional QB in college and led the Broncos to the play-offs and turned a losing season around to a winning one. WTF people??? What evidence is there of him sucking? How can a young kid improve when he spends the whole time on the bench?

According to Jay Glazer (Fox NFL Insider) who has excellent sources. Said on his tweeter account that Tebow chose the Jets because he knew the former HC Mularky and GM Smith was against the idea that Khan was pushing for his services. Jets had better equity at the time to make such a deal. Woody wanted to take away the headlines from the Giants who had recently won the Super Bowl. Woody did the same thing in acquiring Favre from Green Bay (after the Giants beat the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII)

Glazer went on to say this morning that It’s hard to do business with Tebow. The constant pressure of coaches to play him and the circus that follows him. Plus Tim is stubborn, if he can acquiesce to play another position then there may be a ball club or two that’ll pick him up.

Fast forward to earlier this year. Khan hires a new GM and coach. Second GM is against the idea. Went as far as saying “I can’t imagine a scenario where we could get Tim.” added “Even if he is released.” Khan may be the owner, he is not a football person so he did the right thing and yielded to his current think tank.

Tebow is a good football player he doesn’t throw the ball well enough to be an NFL QB.

If he chooses to play as a FB/Hback/TE he will have (IMO) a good NFL career. If he wants to be a QB he may find a home in the CFL.

BTW if Tebow were to give up playing WB he will probably be signed by NE or Chicago (their coach Teessman got his CFL rights and coached him before the NFL draft).

“He’s not a good QB” is "hate"? So if I say Ronald Reagan wasn't an NFL-caliber QB I'm hating him?

He was an exceptional QB in college

So was Ryan Leaf.

and led the Broncos to the play-offs and turned a losing season around to a winning one.

None of the teams Tebow beat in the regular season had a winning record, and he finished with 3 straight losses - including to the 6-10 Bills and 7-9 Chiefs - once teams figured out how to defend against him.

I like Tebow and hope he has a successful NFL career, but I don't see it happening as a starting QB.

From where I sat, the OT touchdown was a defensive breakdown, the karma for which came back to Denver jut before regulation ended in the playoff game vs the Ravens.

I think even saying it was a "breakdown" is generous. The Steelers clearly did not respect Tebow & he managed to burn them on that one play.

What evidence is there of him sucking?

His completion percentage?

The number of balls he throws that hit the ground well before reaching the WR?

The number of balls he throws that sail far above the WRs' heads?

Years of people telling Tebow he must change his throwing mechanics to excel in the NFL & his seeming inability to make those changes?

NONSENSE!!!1! I LOVE FOOTBALLING!!!11!`1!1s!

I especially love at the beginning of the 9th inning when the goalie leavess the net and sends the ball down the fairway and onto the green in a perfect 10-strike for a technical knock-out, and then the hispanic announcer yells GOOOOOAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!

Have you ever actually watched him play? The wildcat will work for a few games. No longer. NFL defenses catch up to it, and are just too fast.

We’re not “Tebow Haters”. I think TT is a great guy. I rooted for him every time i watched him play. But at some point you acknowledge that he just isn’t that good.

Tebow is a good football player he doesn’t throw the ball well enough to be an NFL QB.

Why not? He threw for over 300 yards in the playoff win against the Steelers. Not every QB in the Hall of Fame has great stats, but they are all winners.

Do you have any idea how many exceptional college QBs did not pan out in the NFL?

What evidence is there of him sucking, you ask? How about a less than 50% completion rate. Worst of all qbs rated. No other QB rated was below 50%. No other way to put it, that sucks.

Tim Tebow’s Quarterback rating in 2011 was 28th of 34 qbs rated. In a word, sucks.

His yards per pass attempt were also 28th out of 34. Same editorial one word comment as above.

Passing yards per game: 34th of 34. Do you need me to say it again?

Now, all of that being said, if he’d agree to play something other than QB, I’d probably want him on my team - you can never have enough gamers, and he strikes me as one. Just not at the QB position.

1 Game he completed a bomb. THis deosn’t make him an NFL QB, sorry.

His completion % and accuracy are just horrible. His mechanics are terrible.

If he wanted to play another position he could have a productive NFL career. My daughter was an all area pitcher when in HS, she wanted to play division 1 softball, she moved to CF to realize her goal instead of pitching in D3.

We all make out decisions. It helps to let your reason rule your ego.

The OT play may have been a defensive breakdown... but I remember it well and he put the ball right on the money.

<><><><>

You made it too easy ... of course you remember that pass, it was the only time all season Tebow hit a guy in stride.

And yes I guess that it was probably not the only time ...

Not every QB in the Hall of Fame has great stats,

Can you name an HoF QB with a lower than 50% completion percentage?

but they are all winners.

Tebow lost 4 of his last 5 starts, once teams figured out how to defend against him.

I agree with you. Besides, with Gronk being out and on Belichick’s last nerve. I see Bill calling the Tebow camp let Tim come in to convert to Tight End. He can learn the ropes from his college team mate, Aaron Hernandez. There is no shame in having a Mark Bavaro like career. It’s his all or nothing at all approach regarding the QB position is what is going to be his detriment.
