A four-year-old Chihuahua came to the rescue of an eight-year-old Chilliwack girl after a neighbour's pit bull attacked her and began biting her face.
Jenna Desrochers was outside in a backyard last Tuesday at around 5 p.m. PT when the neighbour's pit bull broke free from its enclosure and went after her.
Soon after, her grandmother's Chihuahua came to the rescue.
Anne Marie Desrochers, Jenna's grandmother, says the pit bull knocked Jenna down and began biting her face. Honey, a four-year-old Chihuahua, then came to the rescue by drawing the attacking dog away.
"The pit bull took Jenna down at the knees, that's what the owner had told me, and basically went for her face."
"Then, the Chihuahua was around...The pit bull ran for the Chihuaua. She was distracted enough," Desrochers said.

Sgt. Stubby, died on March 16, 1926, as a WWI hero. Sergeant Stubby is the most decorated dog in military history, and the only dog to have been promoted during battle. He fought for 18 months in the trenches for France during WW1 for 17 battles. Stubby warned his fellow soldiers of gas attacks, located wounded soldiers in No Man's Land, and listened for oncoming artillery rounds. He was also responsible for the capture of a German spy at Argonne.

The nicest of them all:
Lily! A cross between a Lab, Shepherd, Rotti and Pit Bull and a cuddly baby.
THEY ALL LOOK LIKE KILLERS, DON'T THEY! Too bad they weren't euthanised also! HOW ABOUT THIS ONE:
A WWI poster depiction the UNITED STATES as a PIT BULL! "Perhaps YOU want to euthanize that one as well! I think Turd-owe-with-a-tan, aka Obamugabe, has you beat. So who is "Sabotaging_America"?
SARC. OFF!
Doggie ping.
Why is it I have never met a Pit Bull I didn’t like....I’ve never ever met a mean or vicious Pit Bull...
I’ve got two rescue dogs, both clearly part pit bull. I have had one for nine years and the other for four. They are sweet and loving and very gentle. I have never witnessed a single aggressive act. They bark like hell but since it’s usually at nothing I don’t count that as aggressive.
Well Sonny, 30 years ain’t much history.
They were not unlike keeping a hot young blond girlfriend, you had to watch em pretty close.
One of the best dogs I ever had was a Pit Boxer cross. He looked just like Lil Rascal’s Petey.
Certainly would not have a Pit today considering all the lowlife’s that don’t have the good sense to not in-breed them.
Why not start with mine you Internet badass?
Nothing turns some Freepers into a quivering tub of goo faster than the words pit bull.
Looked up your link. Animal People?? Merritt Clifton, editor of Animal People, pretty much discounts anything they say and might be good to take with grain of salt.
Fewer people than necessary.
Most people have a false perception of most animals wild and domestic, according to what they want to believe.
Clearly you and the rest of the anti-pit because you aren't smart enough to know any better group here do not.
It is clear most FReepers on most threads are reasonable, intelligent and conservative but when the words pit bull come into play they swerve to the left of Nancy Pelosi and became shrill, whiny, liberal bed wetters with zero intelligence and nothing but old wives tales and their prejudicial misunderstanding of all things canine.
The checklist...
1) Large and/or aggressive breed of dog? Pit Bull, a frequent offender.
2) Running loose, often >1 running loose? Escaped from a not secure enough back yard.
3) Prior reports of aggressive behavior? Unknown.
4) Unreasonable expectation of passivity, often despite #3 above? Well seeings as how the beast escaped, I would say the owner was not adequately prepared for it wanting to escape to attack.
Score = 3 out of 4.
Regardless how much you love your Pitt Bull of how highly you think of them, NEVER allow them near small children. They can 'turn' on a dime. Why do you think the animal shelters are FULL of Pitt Bulls? BECAUSE THEIR OWN OWNERS BECOME AFRAID OF THEM!!! Your Pitt Bull may be 'cute' today, but what do dogs do when they get old and cranky? They bite! The animal shelters are FULL of OLD Pitt Bulls for this very reason.
I am the biggest dog lover in the world, but c'mon people.. Do you think just anyone should be allowed to own a TIGER, too? I didn't think so!
BAN THE BREED:
We have a 90 lb Pit Bull and a 4 lb Chihuahua.
The Chi absolutely rules the Pit.
And we have one cat who rules them all.....
PERHAPS WE SHOULD EXTERMINATE CANDY ASSED, GAY BOB LIBERALS WHO KNOW EVER SO MUCH BUT THAT EVERYTHING THEY KNOW IS WRONG? See, I can yell too.
Regardless how much you love your Pitt Bull of how highly you think of them, NEVER allow them near small children. They can 'turn' on a dime.
My pit has been around dozens of children with no incidents. Further Pits don't "turn on a dimes" idiot liberals do.
Why do you think the animal shelters are FULL of Pitt Bulls? BECAUSE THEIR OWN OWNERS BECOME AFRAID OF THEM!!!
No, it is because ignorant dumbass like liberals and gang banger butt holes don't know how to care for a dog.
Your Pitt Bull may be 'cute' today, but what do dogs do when they get old and cranky? They bite! The animal shelters are FULL of OLD Pitt Bulls for this very reason.
Wrong AGAIN, go back and read the part about dumb-asses and gang bangers above.
To put your ridiculous pontification in perspective I bet you believe in "common sense gun control" too.
THE BREED ITSELF MUST BE EXTERMINATED
Once again, start with mine ya liberal n00bie.
Secondly, your dog appears to have some Labrador in it and/or perhaps Springer Spaniel. He does not have the jowls of a Pitt Bull. I wouldn't even consider yours an American Pitt Bull if I saw it.
Let's talk about REAL Pitt Bulls, shall we?
It's the kids you have to watch out for.... like these two who had just met my dog.
Vicious little creatures... I had to tear them loose from Sam.
They say you can tell a dog's emotion from its expression.
What does Sam's expression say? It looks to me like....
'It just doesn't get any better than this.'
You have only been on FR for a few minutes so this may be your first rodeo. I have been showing people the error of their ways concerning pits for going on a decade and a half. By virtue of that I have seen the most liberal, idiotic, stupid and incredibly ridiculous posts over the years. Just a bunch of BS.
As to my dog you once again put your ignorance on display. He is half pit and half Red Heeler. Neither breed is a slouch when it comes to being strong intelligent dogs.
I doubt very many Springer mixes weigh 85 pounds either, which is considerably larger than all but the largest pits. Also he isn’t stupid so even if I didn’t know his parentage I would have known he has not a single drop of Labrador blood.
You want to talk real pits? Well, you can’t because you don’t know anything about them. By the way it is pit not Pitt.
The problem is not the breed, so much as the owner. For some 'feral' types, a dog seems to be a projection of what they want others to think of them. They think that they are 'cool' or 'tough' by having a pit bull-type, or a Rotti, or a Doberman, large male German Shepherd, etc. Personally, I think that many of these 'people' are making up for a lack of 'Y' chromosome. It doesn't help that there are movies such as this, promoting that 'life'style and people that buy into 'thuglife':
Could be worse though; 'thuglife' in the ghettos of Africa:
Yes, hyenas and baboons!
The problem is that once you exterminate the pit bull, the media will move on to another 'extremely dangerous' type of dog. They will focus on it, then the 'ganstas', wannabes and 'I am SOOOOO tough!' types will glom onto that breed. The cycle will begin again!
I agree that SOME dogs should be destroyed, but many can be rehabilitated. A person has to choose a dog with the right temperment and then, they must be willing to train that dog. Look at the number of Michael Vick's dogs that have been rehabilitated!
I do not believe that the extermination of a dog breed is in order, as I mentioned above. I do however, have a RADICAL suggestion to solve the problem of dog attacks. Take a page out of Sharia law. If a dog seriously bites someone, especially a child and it can be shown that the dog was not teased, the owner should be castrated and/or pay recompense to the injured party. Second time? Lose an arm at the elbow. After a few of the feral thugs and 'tough guys' get this treatment, perhaps the breeding of ever bigger and stronger dogs, and the training that makes them viscious, will be cut back.
