When you fight the law, the law usually wins.
A couple was arrested after their argument over who was the greatest guitarist of all time became so heated that Motel 6 staff was forced to call the Brook Park police.
The boyfriend was screaming on behalf of Slash, lead guitarist for Guns and Roses. The girlfriend was jumping for Eddie Van Halen, namesake of 80s rockers Van Halen.

Rock and Roll was birthed in the blues.
American Blues that was cherished, studied and thrust onto the music scene, primarily by British bands.
The list is nearly endless. But, it’s still the Blues.
I believe the origin of this blues sound, I could be wrong, came from the Irish settlers to what was the back country in the 1800s.
Damn - 40 posts and not one mention of Alvin Lee - SHAME!
Fitz and the Tantrums is one rock band that bravely decided to go without gittars and came out pretty well for it.
One musician I follow is a classically trained pianist who also sings and plays a 4 string guitar, which is called tenor guitar, somewhat difficult to find on the market, and which he tunes like a mandolin. He plays it like a ringing a bell, and seeing him on Youtube, I wonder how he plays the bass string which is prominent in the sound, with his left hand?
For your listening pleasure.
De-tune your guitar and make the sound work.
Solo.
Raw talent, and humility.

First circle.. 22/8 time.. Ridiculously awesome, but a pain to cover.
The best version of Beck’s “Going Down” was the guitar duo with SRV.
How about some love for pepper Keenan- master of power chords.
And no mention of django Reinhardt?
I can only judge the ones I’ve heard live. The top 5 are Clapton(with Muddy Waters), Zappa, Townshend, Page, and EVH. I saw Malmsteen open for AC/DC in 1985, and was bored. Angus Young was much more interesting.Never saw Duane Allman, Hendrix, or SRV.
Great song !!
But there is something wrong with drinking “Sierra Nevada” from a can.
I must have missed the Sierra Nevada, and didn’t even know it came in cans.
The song is great, and the video was not the best example of the guy’s work, I don’t even know his name, Darryll something, but I saw them in a live online telecast last weekend from a club in California ,and they were a blast, and he just shined, didn’t show off, stayed in one place, while the temporary replacement bassist gyrated like a mad rabbit.
Yngwe’s first solo album, Rising Force is awesome. After that, you’re right, he starts to sound the same. Plus, he fired any musician that was as good as he was. If you listen to Rising force, the keyboard player was able to mirror Yngwe’s lines note for note at the same tempo. I like what Steve Vai said about him, “He blows his wad at least three times each song”.
Lars is probably still hated among metal heads after Napster and Metallica seems content to have lame lead guitar compared to what Ride the Lightning had.
Well...I think Slash does the better Keith Richard impersonation.
Ritchie Blackmore, when he was focused and on his game was a master too. Not the over played Smoke on the Water.
Stargazer from “Rainbow Rising”
Pictures of Home from “Machinehead”
Heavy riffs and blinding solos
Not necessarily the best, but in the top tier and my favorite
Everyone is wrong. The correct answer is.........Glenn Schwartz.
Thank you for playing.
My top 5:
Steve Vai
SRV
Satrani
Hendrix
Alvin Lee tie with Jimmy Page, Frusciante, Gilmore, Eddie Vanhalen.
No Clapton and dont get me started on Keith Richards...
His performances were hypnotizing, electrifying and also a little scary. Especially when he strode to the mic to sing "Penicillin Penny".
We will never see the likes of a George Cummings ever again.
