The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread ... there is no telling where it will go and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
heh heh! My asparagus crowns came in LATE November 2011; Since it was rather mild, the ground hadn’t frozen I put them in as per instructions; let them fern out this past summer. They are in a raised bed as I live on a “wetland” and have to be careful due to the meddling DEC!
So far just basil but I’m growing cukes so far. Aerogardens are rather pricey but compact hydroponic systems.
OMG I have boatloads of gardening and birding magazines. Once you get on that list. . .:P
Well, the only ground I see now is where the sidewalk plows have scraped up the grass.
A HUNDRED WATT LIGHT BULB?!? Are you trying to kill us all?
Thank God we have several hundred good men and women in DC to save us from the likes of you.
The white barrels are water collected from a downspout.
Good idea! I have a Mexican lime and an orange tree growing in large cattle molasses pots.
Cool pictures. Thanks for sharing.
Ha Ha. When it rains it pours. All of mine came almost at the same time, and now I haven’t had time to look at them.LOL.
Now there’s a point. Maybe I should buy a 100 or 75 watt bulb as a reminder for each and every vote cast for that ignorant law.
They haven’t progressed much further than the last ones I posted GE but the days are getting longer. I still have cleanup to do in the landscaping. Ugggghhh
Me too. I was trying to do it last fall, but my get up and go just got up and went. So it’s all still waiting for me. I won’t do anything though till we hit a good 50 degree or more day.
For any interested parties, here is a link to House Resolution 193. It has not left committee, but thought I’d give you a heads up, just in case. It has to do with the registration of saved seed with the Secretary of Agriculture. While it appears it just applies to seeds saved from patented, engineered crops, anytime the government seeks to impose registration and fees on seeds, I’m suspicious:

Thanks for the link. Just the term “saved seed” is patently ridiculous. The only way they can hope to really control all this stuff is if we all suddenly become The Borg.
We gor 5 1/2 inches od rain in 2 days, but down the road a fellow got 7 inches of rain. We really need it too. The horses in the pasture are loving it and the rye grass that was planted is beginning to come up.
Will it be too late to plant more carrots? I’ve got some strawberries up and covered ‘cause we’re going to get some low temps in a couple of days. I’m going to do some lettuces in the garage, radishes and beets too.
GREAT idea, I’ve been thinking of starting some now and when it gets a bit warmer, put the pots outside. I’m also thinking of beans and peas. In fact I think I’ll put some parsian carrot seeds in the pot with the tomoato seed, in fact I’ll do 2 or 3 tomatoe pots with “friends”. I’ve put some garlic with my roses and “sauced” banana leaves in the rose pot then covered with compost. OH, I found one more styrofoam pot and am getting ready to turn it into another growing pot. Gardening is fun.
Wide open spaces is for us too, Ellendra. The golf course is in front, no neighbors in the back, we live in the county but close enough to town when I need something from the store...like cream. We have a pasture on the place, with 3 horses, 1 female and 2 geldings...I call them Wica and her gang. No, they belong to a friend who lives in town, but is looking for property in the county.
I agree it is fun.
