Whirling, I have confidence in what you say, but somehow I have to make this work.

Sometimes, Marco, things just don't work.

I don't try to store stuff that requires refigeration around here if 'lektrikity is out.

Eggs on the counter for a week. Yep. Butter? Yep.

Meat? I'll cook it, or smoke it or salt it or preserve it.

Nothing replaces refrigeration like... refrigeration.

“I think it will work even in very humid climites. The fan would probably help it, but in most cases not be necessary JMHO.”

I’m going to make them and we’ll both believe it will work where we live. I’ll get the parts first part of next week. Lowes could be low on pottery pots since it’s not growing season. Just have to talk to them.

I think that is a good site to explain how to put them together.

Well, we used to bathe and wash our hair with 1 teakettle of hot water. It didn’t take long to heat it either. Granny put some cold water in the watering can and added the water from the teakettle.

Then she handed me a bar of soap, washrag and shampoo. First you dip the soap in water and soap up all over. Then you dunk the washrag and get your hair all wet. Then you soap up the hair.

Then Granny sprinkles you off or, hang the can on a hook and you sprinkle yourself off if you are tall enough. Then Granny hands you some vinegar water that you dump on your hair. Then the last bit of water rinses that off.

Then Granny hands you a towel. That ain’t dumbass - That’s just a country girl down on the farm.LOL. Comes in handy when the electric hot water heater is off due to power outage.

I've got long hair. ;)

And a kitchen built when #2 washtubs were in use.

I just have to make sure the blinds are closed. I don't want to scar any minds.

Yeh the pottery stores are low this time of year. I think also to be safe, I would get a refrig thermometer to keep in the pot and be able to check the temperature. Good directions there I agree.

I have looked at them, but was wandering how they handle load balance in a split phase panel?

At the moment I have built a separate pass through box with donut coils to monitor each side of the load and will balance it the best I can. The primary purpose is the well where nominal load is 1.92KW and surge (measured) 8.4KW and rated for 10. Water wells are a pain in the backside.

My old inverters will be headed into Faraday storage.

You could use a camp shower bag and put it in the sun to heat and have a hot shower or do I remember you like a tub bath instead of a shower? If my water goes off, I will use the shower bags at kitchen sink to have running water there, bathroom sinks and I have a walk in shower to use a camp shower there.

Good idea. I’ll get the right kind of thermometer for that.

I had zero problems with stacking and splitting using the Outback equipment.

Read the specs.

Wells are a problem. I ran the genset when I had an electric pump, or hauled water when I didn't. I wasn't doing running water, then.

I really, really like where modern tech has gotten us.

You know what, just to have cold water or cold tea or cikd canned coke if you had one, would be a pleasure if there is no power and no ice.

Well, I always had long hair back then too. And Granny’s house didn’t have any built in tubs. There was one galvinized tub hangin on a nail outside,

That tub wasn’t used that except in freezing weather on Saturday night to maked sure we were extra clean to get ready for church on Sunday. It was set up in the Kitchen with a sheet hung up for a little privacy.

We had to take turns, and no lollygagin’ around was allowed either. Rest of the time you showered outside or used a metal basin of water on the back porch. And you better have clean ears and feet or you were in trouble.

Agreed. Nothing like waking up to a snowstorm and no power. Just head to the basement and flip the transfer switch and the shop for more firewood. After some measured procrastination and a good cup of coffee, heading out with the snow blower. Life is much better with the simple pleasures of running water, refrigeration and lights. No Luddite here.

Yeh, I think so too. In fact I might just set on up permanently in the summer for my grand daughter to use for her juice boxes and sodas so she doesn’t keep gawkin in the refrigerator.LOL.

Scary part is that I've got parachute cord stretched across the large kitchen near the ceiling to separate the areas if required.

I sorta live like that.

Mostly though, I use the paracord to hang handwashed laundry.

Once upon a time, I made real money, and stored my clothes in a dryer so they were warm and wrinkle free when I got out of the hot shower. (Single guy trick. Start the hot water for the shower, hit the button on the dryer. SS&S. Dress, and gone in 4 minutes)

I used to use those old cast iron radiators.
Wash clothes at night drape over radiator toasty ironed clothes in morning.

Thabk you for most useful information on this thread

“..just to have cold water..”

My mom, 94 years old, talks to the grandkids about that stuff. The ice truck would come every week(?) and he would cut a chunk to fit in the ice box. Folks had different sizes - but he remembered. She said on a hot summer’s day the kids would run out and he seemed to do an extra-sloppy job of cutting so lots of extra ice chips! (Otherwise it was cool milk from the icebox, and tap water).

But she said the “sheeny man” (rag man) was her favorite as he had a horse-drawn cart. She always made sure she had some piece of junk to bring out so she could pet the horse.
