I was at Dick's this morning to buy some 223 ammo and was paying in cash. Before the checkout clerk would ring me out I had to tap Yes or No on the pad for the question of "Are you a US citizen"? None of the other gun stores I frequent ask this question......will be my last ever Dick's Sporting Goods purchase.
Yeah, I suck.
“”Why? I think this is great. Who wants noncitizens buying firearms?””
Ammo isn’t firearms.
I’m not sure I would sell ammunition to a non citizen, and Dick owns his business, not you.
Was this a customer survey, or a law enforcement barrier that you had to navigate?
I don’t see an attempt to stop foreigners. I don’t see a Second Amendment threat. I see a store trying to monitor activities of foreign citizens. I’m not opposed to this — it’s a property rights thing. The folks who own the store can ask anything they want — and you, of course, are free to shop elsewhere if you so choose.
The question will not do one iota to stop crime. All a criminal will need to to is tap Yes and it is no questions asked.
Am I on FR or DU?
Do non-citizens have American rights on our soil that they do not have on their own countries soil? I would think reciprocality laws and the UN would think not.
“That is an INFRINGEMENT”
How?
I fail to see the problem.
So what good is that question without asking for ID? If they had asked for my ID to buy ammo, I would have been pissed too.
Travelling?
All it takes to incriminate yourself in Mexico is to have an empty (that means “used”) shell casing in your luggage or glove compartmant.
Red, I’m not sure this is a bad thing.
Verifying eligibility for a sensitive buy isn’t so far-fetched. Also, you mentioned you were paying cash. The clerk may have been following procedure; not an infringement intended.
I thought the whole thing was a joke? He had to “tap” why?
You are kidding me. You were offended that they asked you that?
I suppose you are against such a question at polling places, too.
I agree with you. You were buying a legal product. WITH CASH. It's none of the vendor's DAMN business what your "legal" status is. This is NOT a voting booth or a job interview. It's a free-market transaction.
I've heard other horror stories on other threads about Dick's. Let me be the first to say: Dick's is for d**ks.
I thought the whole thing was a joke? He had to “tap” why?
How does a survey question infringe?
Why don’t they have a right to ask?
How did you feel? Why?
IIRC, the US Constitution applies to its citizens. If a non-citizens wishes to purchase and has to answer a question, there is no inherent violation of the 2nd Amendment.
All Men may be created equal, but the 2A to me is only for Citizens.
Wouldn’t really mind answering that question. Its when they ask me for my telephone # and email that ticks me off.
Damn straight!
There are ZERO laws on the books about foreigners buying ammo. Brits and Auatralians come here all the time to shoot and can buy all the ammo they want. This is one more infringement......and yet many here willfully go along. (in the name of safety of course)
Effing laughable.
