The Marine Corps has tapped Colt Defense LLC to make more than 10,000 new Close Quarter Battle Pistols for the service's elite special operations troops.
The July 19 contract, which has a total value of $22.5 million, brings an end to the Corps' exhaustive search for the top .45 caliber, 1911-style pistol to replace the fleet of worn-out Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, or MARSOC, M45 pistols

Anyone who thinks the 1911A1 is too large and has bad recoil, to each their own I guess.
IMO, it is the most natural pointing handgun for instinctive shooting ever made. For close in combat type practice, (25 yards or less) I never use the sights, just point and shoot gets it done, nuff said.
It should also be noted that the .45 ACP was designed to approximate the ballistics of the .45 Colt.

Then I would say it’s a question of where you were gripping the weapon. The ‘how’ was probably okay if you were comfortable with the Desert Eagle, but my guess is your hands were probably a little too low on the grip - not snugged up right against the frame. That would make shooting it quite uncomfortable.
I love the 1911 - all flavors and variations as long as they are made by Colt, from Gold Cup to lightweight Commander.
A 1911 Gov’t .45 and an M14 - who needs anything else? :-)

The 1911 is not a finesse weapon. It is not a one eye closed let’s play plink the target. It is built for close combat, a both eyes open and lead down range quick type weapon. Love it.

As for your assumption/implication I am merely another grunting, snorting, male chauvanist pig, I came from a family of women where upper level performance was a given. Mon was in college in a state far from home when she was fifteen, not taking a course at the local J. C. Same for my sister. Both were considered to have reached the top of their professions.
As for shootists in specific, I was engaged to a red headed school teacher who held a Biancci Cup record.
She would agree with me that women have more trouble with the .45ACP than men due to weaker upper body structure and weaker soft tissue.
As aNRA pistol instructor, please allow me to tell you that among instructors where are many stories of cute little females who were told about trigger squeeze, sight control, breath control, etc. And then picked up the gun and did exactly what they had been instructed. Result? Scores they left the instructor amazed.
A sweet 16 Russian girl emptied a Taurus snubby into a dinner plate for the third time, and most shots were in the center. Not too shabby for her first time with a firearm. As she finished the last shot, she lowered the gun and turned her head to me (note, the gun remained downrange) and said “Is there anything here we could hunt?”
I was the instructor that time. But she was the exception. Many younger females have trouble squeezing the trigger of a large double action revolver. One such teen female was a tennis competitor and could not squeeze the trigger on an AMT .45 ACP Backup. Admittedly, it has a 17 pound trigger, but no male under80 has not been able to so do.

Having considered what to carry where I have bear to 400 pounds, puma, gators 12 feet long, and python and anacondas even longer, I decided on a heavy revolver.
However, for the recoil averse, for dealing with land predators, a flare pistol with the proper load of zirconia/magnesium or white phosphorus has little recoil compared to a .454 Casuel. And. did I mention that predators afire ARE already part way to their proper place on the food chain (BBQ!).
I’ve wondered about that for some time. Do you think that’s a viable choice for a carry gun?
Back in the day, it used to gall me that fellow cops would go to the range and close one eye when firing a PPC qualification.
Since we know we react in real life out of our training, some of us would purpose to fire Both Eyes Open
I, for one, did not want to get into a combat situation where I missed something because I had an eye closed, or worse, have blurred vision when I later opened that closed eye.
Once you learn to pick up the correct sight picture with both eyes open, the range becomes a better place to be.
Must have been bad technique. I shoot only .45 in pistols because it generates the only level of recoil with which I am comfortable. Slow recoil as compared to the 9MM.

Not to start a pie fight (although I love them!) but the Marines chose an 8-round steel pistol that rusts in a marine environment over a variety of polymer pistols that could shoot a decent round and have 14+ rounds in the mag?
