Well, now I'm a believer.
What I saw this evening tells me that there IS something out there that isn't a star, isn't an airplane and definitively isn't a normal fluctuation in the atmosphere.
I noted a "star"? in the SSW at about 30 degrees from the horizon.
At first I thought it was just a star jumping around due to atmospheric fluctuation. After a few minutes I noted that it "jumped" from time to time. About every 3rd or 4th jump I noted a second light jump with it and then immediately return to blend with the brighter object (star)?
I spend a fair amount of time in the evenings looking for satellites passing over and then checking with my NASA satellite tracking program to see just which one it was.
This was not a satellite. I don't know just what it was but it was not normal. Stars do fluctuate somewhat from time to time, but in this case ONLY this one was fluctuating and none of those nearby moved one iota.
It continued for more than 15 minutes or so until I couldn't strain my neck anymore.
It wasn't a star. If it was the ones in the immediate vicinity would have been jumping about in the same manner.
What it is I don't know but I'll make a educated guess. I won't tell you what I guess it was but I did want to report this for the purpose to elicit though as to what kind of object could possibly act in a manner independent from ALL other objects in the night sky.
It stayed relative to where I first viewed it.
It didn't streak across the sky - it merely "jumped" from spot to spot. The smaller object did seem to streak in response to the brighter objects movement (and) it always fell into the glow (behind or beside) the larger object.
I will post this and see what others might have to say on the subject.
Maybe one of you will have thoughts on the subject that might be of interest.
Thanks
I fired up my Starry Night with Phoenix as location, and I did notice a very bright and slow moving satellite, identified as RESURS-DK1, moving from W to SW. disappearing just S of SW at 10:34 this evening at about 21 deg. altitude.
Sounds reasonable. The trouble is why would it appear to be jumping about unless it was rotating and had something nearby that was attached which also rotated and caught the rays from the sun.
At that latitude the sun probably would have reflected off of any object but thought this seemed to jump about it stayed “relatively” in the same position over 15 minutes.
A satellite (most satellites) that do move, move MUCH faster than that and I have never heard of one that rotates in orbit. (if that was what it was doing???????)
Thanks. A good level headed possible explanation.
Military Craft.
I thought of that right off the bat.
But that really doesn’t explain it’s odd behavior - but then again who knows what the Military would be testing and for what purpose.
Just so long as they don’t aim the stupid thing at me, they can do (almost) anything they want.
I personally have trouble typpinng at tymes.
I saw something similar when I lived in New Mexico. It’s anyone’s guess what’s out there.
strained neck due to it being broken in VietNam. Sorry I haven’t a better excuse.
As far as my camera is concerned it just is not powerful enough to photograph stuff like that. I just use it for landscapes and personal photographs of family and friends.
Do you know where the eye of god is?
(The eye of Horus)?
Do you know why it is called the Eye of Horus?
Another interesting fact. NASA discovered a couple of years back that the center of the universe is in the same place as the Egyptains said the gods watched us from (The Eye of Horus).
We’re all fluent in Typonese, let not your heart be troubled.
I saw pictures of the Phoenix lights and the ones they tried to dump on us (Flairs).
I spent enough time in VietNam where our only light off the perimeter was through the use of flairs.
The triangular lights that most people saw at dusk WERE NOT FLAIRS no matter how hard they tried to convince people that they were.
Where in my dissertation did I use the word “flying saucer”?
You can make what you want of what I saw for I don’t know what I saw but PLEASE NEVER PUT WORDS IN MY MOUTH>.....
I believe you. There are things we can not explain because we don’t have the knowledge and experience to say what is real and what is an illusion.
An illusion is merely an unknown object that you are unfamiliar with and your brain tries to categorize as best it can with the knowledge you have and sometimes it gets kind of kinky while doing so.
I used to be in the AirForce. A lot of guys told me things they saw and could not adequately identify and their only explanation was UFO.
It means different things to different people. Pilots use the word as it was meant to be used (unidentified flying object)
Some of those pilots said (I can’t call it a space ship because I would lose my wings) so I only refer to it as a UFO because I ONLY KNOW that I saw something unusual, unique and nothing that is known in their book of known flying craft.
I’ve seen and experienced some heavy “UFO” type stuff and used to talk about it. My friends thought I was crazy - they’re not my friends anymore by their choice. That was when I was younger and having friends was more important. I decided not to talk about specific things casually ever again.
My wife believes me, and I’ve put it all into perspective. There are plenty of things in the Universe and in our own minds we may never understand.
I do think it’s unfair how a “pilot” is deemed qualified as an observer of the sky, but a sailor, sniper, hunter, fisherman, etc. just never seems to be “credible.”
I guess I will have to start paying attention to it more.
It definitely was unusual.
I have seen what some think are UFO’s on the horizon but the fact is that stars on the horizon look like they are rotating and changing colors. That is a trick of the atmosphere and light bouncing off various layers of the atmosphere.
This was definitely not changing colors, just bouncing around.
please keep in touch. I’ll take a look again tomorrow night.
I can spot Serias, Mars Jupiter and the Pleiades with no problem whatsoever.
You call yourself PrairieLady. Where are you from?
Right - You are “F**King right on.....
There are to many things that are being caught on film by professional and amateurs alike.
I know balloons when I see them and I know things that are not describable as anything more than UFO’s.
I have busted one (helped) Flying saucer film. Some idiot had a whole bunch of palm trees and these three flying saucers flying over.
(problem#1 ALL the palm trees were EXACTLY the same)
(problem#2 flying saucers would not tilt like a human aircraft. They would move any and all directions while remaining horizontal or in a fixed position).
It bleated sounds like it was friendly and like it would be good for the world. But everything that touched it went bad.
It was the Liberal/Progressive Hoard. Aiiieeee!
Far above, in the sky there was this thing.
Do you, or did you, have night paralysis?
I haven't had a night paralysis attack for a few years, but used to frequently get them when I was a kid. They would often come with very vivid hallucinations, usually of the room I was in (my eyes were closed, but I "saw" it anyway). But sometimes, something really frightening would appear. Vivid hallucinations are not uncommon in those afflicted by night paralysis.
When I was in Meteorology doing Shuttle and ELV support we would release a bunch of these Jimspheres, http://www.ehartwell.com/afj/Jimsphere
They would often get caught in the Jet stream and I was told that it was possible for them to stay up in the atmosphere for weeks since they were made of aluminized mylar and because of their design would eventually float at around 55k feet.
