What is Mitt Romney Doing With All His Time?

Posted on 06/13/2012 8:20:18 PM PDT by SamAdams76

Okay, I know I am inviting comments from the peanut gallery with this posting, but just what the heck has presidential candidate Mitt Romney been doing with all his time recently? Is he using it wisely?

Yes, it is true that Romney makes regular appearances on the campaign trail but by and large, he spends most of his days out of view. I'm just wondering what he is doing during that time.

Chances are, he is being briefed by staffers and handlers on the issues of the day so that when it comes time for town meetings, press interviews and debates, he will be as sharp as possible on the issues.

Or perhaps, he is getting trained by consultants on how to be a regular guy. For Romney comes across as rather stiff and formal. Maybe he's being coached on how to be more personable and charismatic.

I can relate as I had the opposite experience in my younger years as I was being groomed for upper management. As a young manager, I had no problem being down to earth and relating to working class people. But I felt like a fish out of water in the boardrooms. So my company sent me to image consultants, Dale Carnegie, the works, so that I could present a more polished "executive" appearance - kind of like...Mitt Romney.

I was taught how to match my ties perfectly with my suit and how to wear brown shoes with brown belts and color coordinate my shirt with my suit and so forth so I didn't look like a jackass when meeting with "C" level executives. They even taught me how to dress business casual - collared alligator shirts, dress pants, loafers and then really casual with golf shirts (no T-shirts!), tan shorts (never black or white), boat shoes (no socks) and expensive looking sunglasses. Never wear sneakers under any circumstances and only wear dungarees if you are doing yard work, farming or ranching.

Yes, I was taught how to give a public speech: Thank the person who introduced me to the podium, smile at the audience, loosen them up with a self-deprecating joke or two before launching into my prepared remarks. I was told how to hold a wine glass, which fork to use with salad and all that other etiquette stuff that separates the elite from the masses.

So basically I think Romney is being consulted on the opposite of all that because he already has the "power executive" image down pat. So he's being consulted on how to be a regular guy so he can relate to the masses. This is perhaps a tougher challenge than a regular guy pretending at being an executive. Because people who are used to wealth and privilege often look dorky when they try to relate to the common man. Witness John Kerry's awkward attempts back in 2004 with his "Can I get me a hunting license" schtick.

So lets hope Romney does not make a total ass of himself when he hits the campaign trail 24/7 later this year.

So what else is Romney doing behind those closed doors? Bear in mind that Romney is one of the first nominees since Ronald Reagan who did not have the added burden of an elected office while running for president. (McCain was a sitting senator, the Bushes a sitting president or vice-president, Dole a sitting senator, etc.)

So like Reagan in 1980, Romney has the luxury of devoting 100% of his time to running for president. Let's hope he is using that time wisely...and just what the heck is he doing with all this time anyhow?

Really, I had not given it much thought other than he’s allowing 0 to self destruct a bit more before the onslaught begins in earnest. I have been pretty busy otherwise what with commenting on various trivia elsewhere, though...

I thought this was a game like find waldo-only you find romney. Instead it’s another;

If romney doesn’t win the oceans will dry up, the stars will fall from the sky, the sun will no longer shine, the kids will starve and I won’t be able to get margarita’s. (That last one would be bad)

Really, are you guys working for romney? Have you ever met Karl Rove or Ann Coulter? How about Matt Drudge? Is he really as short as he looks? Are you guys paid internet bloggers? What’s your commission? How do they verify someone really voted for romney, the honor system? If we lie and all say we will vote for him, will you leave us alone?

He is working 12-18 hrs a day raising money and meeting people, getting briefed.

In Orlando yesterday, he spent about an hour with 7 of us old guard Reagan supporter types after two big morning fundraisers. Afternoon and evening were the same.

So you are a hard cord romney lover? I thought this was just a summer job for you.

I noticed you guys move in swarms, looking for prospective romney votes? Do you know each other outside of FR? You also don't seem to like conservatives? This is a conservative site. You might be more confortable at Salon or one of those other not conservative sites. Not that I want you to leave. I enjoy our back and forth. You just don't seem to be too happy with us social conservatives. We really do stand firm on what we think is right. See we really believe God means what He says. I know you think He's wrong, but He's not. None of you are mormons, right? Mormons (they say they are gods) will probably question why we believe our God over your god (you). Anyway, getting tired, good night and prayers and blessings to you all.

I think this is wise. He is letting the news cycle-—which is NOT in Obama’s favor-—carry his message. When your enemy is destroying himself, stand back and shut up. It’s June, and you don’t want to wear out your welcome. There was a piece Rush read yesterday in the WaPo by a guy who says Zero is going to be forced into a six state campaign and that his personality is such that voters will really despise him after he spends so much time in those states.

And whether YOU like it or not we are going to be here the entire time telling the truth about romney.

Then, after the election we are going to make sure that YOU and the progressives in the GOP get the blame for it ALL...

Have fun supporting your socialist prick.

Gee, and all this time I was under the impression that smoking crack kept one awake and yet you are "getting tired?"

As an (almost) 68 year young Nam Vet who loves his country more than life, I'm willing to wager I'm as Conservative as any other Freeper here and to suggest that we who are more concerned about the SAFETY, SECURITY, and SURVIVAL of our Republic and would crawl across a field of broken glass to vote for anyone who has a chance of defeating our FASCIST, Dear Leader is not only beyond the pale, disgusting and beneath a reasonable Freeper's dignity--if they have any--but highly offensive.

Oh, and btw, just Who's "GOD" is "Your" God?

I happen to be a Catholic; is "Your" God different or "Better" than mine?

Just wondering???

Exactly! He is on his campaign. Media and Obots keep trying to draw him into “half baked” problems. why would he respond. Let BHO collapse on his own. BHO doesn’t talk about anything that is suspicious and gets a free pass. Romney is smart enough to “pick and chose” his arguments.
This is going to be a landslide for Romney and the Repubs. All they have to do is let the fraud keep talking about all the great things he has done(NOTHING). Holder is going down. Obamacare is going down. What more needs to be said???

Running for president is such a boring idyllic job, that he's spending hours a day lurking on FreeRepublic under the pseudonym “Rombo” phishing for liberal idiots to vote for him, since he is the same as Obama.

“but just what the heck has presidential candidate Mitt Romney been doing with all his time recently?”

My guess would be raising money (about x3 on that), holding meetings with his professional handlers about buying state-level party chairmen, issuing instructions to make sure everyone stays on message, drawing up lists of (Northeastern left-wing) supporters to hand out patronage to after the election, organizing successful astroturf for internet sites, meeting with his advertising guys, and having expensive lunches with guys who run banks and corporations to get their support. He’ll probably work a few visits with his tailor in, at least one haircut and maybe send somebody out to buy a new car. Typical politician stuff, in all likelihood.

If Newt had managed to hang on, he could have taken that cruise for the next 3 months while the ROTUS and his administration implodes.

All the next president has to do is show up before the election, point to the ROTUS and say "See that guy right there? I'm NOT HIM..."

50 state Blowout...

All the more reason to expect the economy to be crashed, the zombie apocalypse, the plague, a war or some contrived disaster just prior to the election.

I am a scoial conservative. I just realize that this is a time to try to influence a candidate, not cry that my main candidate lost.

Why do I do that? God told me to!
