I am so sorry to hear about your surgery, Swampy! Prayers are with you and good thoughts/wishes coming your way. Hugs, Mom
All the best to you!
I’m in line next year....
I know so many people who have had this “procedure.” All of them came through very easily - and they left their glasses behind!! So don’t worry - be happy that your vision will be wonderfully improved.
Prayers for you and hope that all goes well. Please post one of your wonderful pictures to cheer us up.
I had cataract surgery a couple of years ago. One eye then the other a week apart. It was a piece of cake, no problem at all.
After the surgery I was surprised how bright and clear everything was. I honestly did not know my eyesight had deteriorated. One eye is now 20/15 and the other 20/20.
Best of luck to you. One of the top Freepers.
What kind of IOLs are you getting?
Good luck on the surgery. I've had my share of eye surgeries, too (thyroid related).
He will use a medication to freeze your eye muscles in place and another medication to keep your eyelids open, so don't worry about that part. He has a head and neck brace to keep your head still and they'll tether your hands.
If you've ever had difficulty with any anesthetic of any kind he will be happy to have you tell him about it before he begins.
I had Versed for the right eye, but just a topical for the left. The surgery takes maybe 10 minutes ~ unless something goes wrong! Versed will make you less upset in that case. Subjective time is about 8 hours of course!
The implants are incredible. Your eyesight will be as good as when you were a kid.
Keep us updated Swampy. I have mac in both eyes (worse in right eye) and cataracts forming in both (worse in right eye ... I guess I’m too far right, eh?).
I and perhaps many others around your age, would be interested in what drugs aggravate the condition. Since many of us around your age, are taking meds of various kinds. Tell the doc to be especially careful with your viewfinder eye.
Now you’re going to get to see just how good your photos are and you’ll get all big-headed and start working for NatGeo or Audubon and won’t have time for us peasants.
(Seriously - Good Luck and let God guide the surgeon’s laser!)
Best of luck. My dad has the same issue, two surgeries next month.
Glad it wasn’t worse news.
Wish you the best success. Do you think you’ll be able to use iron sights after the procedure(s)?
Interesting as I had the cataract surgery for both eyes exactly ten years ago, and mine were done in May, and July as well.
My operations were at the Jerry Pettus VA Hospital at the Loma Linda University Hospital complex eye center. Great job they did. So thankful to be able to see again.
By the time of the scheduled operations my eyes had deteriorated to the point of being virtually blind as all I could see was the swirling colored mud, almost like peering through a kaleidoscope, and seeing the Orange, brown, black, and yellow swirl backlit by whatever light source there was wherever I was.
It’s an interesting operation in which you are awake the full time doing as the Dr. tells you to do, but you don’t feel a thing as they give you a shot prior to the operation the dulls everything.
I still required glasses for minor corrections, but could see, and that’s what it is all about.
You’ll be very happy when it’s all over, and the procedure is so common anymore it’s almost bullet proof, so NOT to worry.
Congrats on the no Glaucoma and no macular degeneration. Good luck with the cataracts surgery. Two guys in my office have had it with no problems.
