I can't even find anyone that is bright enough to tell me over the phone what make and model trucks they have for rent, much less what the tow rating is.
Have you tried Penske?

I gather that Free Republic has become your own personal Ask Jeeves site.
you try Craigslist?
Good luck with that...
Almost NO ONE allows towing with rental vehicles, too much liability. Besides, you are talking about Semi-level stuff.
Try Ryder, but it might just be cheaper (and safer) in the end to hire a tow company. What are you trying to haul that requires 20K? Certainly not an RV.
Okay...I'll bite. Where?
Penske or Hertz but you’ll need a CDL. This is a medium duty truck and they mostly lease long term.
Short or long term need? Long or sort distance haul.
Most times, for the infrequent case, you are better off going to u-ship or something like that.
Also, the ONLY thing out there with those kind of towing weights (20k)is the NEW GM Dynamax, which is more of a semi, than a truck.
At a truck rental place.
I doubt it. Like many of us, he is betting that the breadth of knowledge on FR is broad enough to alleviate his frustration.
And it is, for the most part...:)
Very funny.
The TSA is now handling such rentals directly - but you’ll need a permission slip from your local Representative. :)
Gluck. No money in renting those, sky-high liability. You might find a hole-in-the-wall place that has worn-out equipment but still that’s a pretty high rating. You’re probably going need to hire a pro.
Ok, let me be nosy and ask what are you towing?
That is cool!
How do you do that and how much time does it take?
Good job.
I’m developing a renewed interest in boomer, gen x and gen y characteristics. What group is prone to, I want x tell me where to get it instead of looking?

The message is that rental companies don’t WANT you towing anything!!!
Small percentage of the consumer public have experience with proper hook-up, let alone towing on the open road.
Scoot your butt down to a U-Haul shop, talk w the manager and read the specs.
Then plan on waiting a week or two for the one you need to become available.
Call your nearest Ford truck dealer.
try some Lime-away.
