Anyone notice Guinness tastes different? It seems to me when they stopped using the "widget" in their bottles, the flavor changed. It now has a slightly sour aftertaste.
A year ago or so I was asked to leave an irish pub when I got into a huge argument with the bartender. I told them their Guinness keg was crap after taking one sip of a draw and I told them I wanted my money back. They gave me my money and I was escorted out.
But now I tasted guinness(bottles) last friday for the first time in a year and realized its the same taste. Slightly sour aftertaste. They changed something. I can't drink it anymore.
I just went out and bought cans to try them and see if any different. Nope. same sour aftertaste.
When I was an 18 year old young fairly tiny lady I was removed from a bar bodily by two big guys carrying me off the ground, by my shoulders out the door. I was a very new pool player and handily beat the owners son at a game. His game was his pride, and he accused me of being a shark. His mom, the owner, had me removed, probably before her son would have hauled off and hit me.
One other time I was removed from a strip joint/bar by the bouncer, who carried me out. A young, zealous Christian I went up on the stage and started preaching to the girls and the crowd. It was interesting because the crowd loved me, not so much the girls, who were upstaged. The crowd booed the bouncer for taking me away. The bouncer was so gentle. He carried me like he thought I could easily break.
Yup.
Murphys is far better than Guiness.
And the stout I make is hell’s bells better than both!
But for right now, I’m almost finished bottling a run of Dark Ale. Will get about 38 bottles out of this one.
My current 2 favorite beers are Guinness Extra Stout and Stella Artois.
Months ago my favorites were Sam Adams Cream Stout and Irish Red.
I’m ready for a price drop, though. Sometimes wish I still liked cheap beer.

Their product was very funky, sold in battered, scratched, dark brown bottles that looked as if they had been recycling since the Civil War. Their draft was sold in saloons that they owned! The taste varied from day to day, (even from case to case!) possibly because everyone from the CEO and the inter-related board of directors down to the guys on the brewery floor was pixilated around the clock. BTW, their ad budget was miniscule!
We worked and worked on a suitable positioning statement to come up with "More than Just a Six-Object." My idea,"No Two Bottles Alike" was summarily rejected and I was sent back to the car account. We could do no wrong as long as all the very lo-bux commercials were shot on the company yacht and had plenty of hefty eye-candy around. Apparently, this brewery's ideal Babe was about 5'3" and 165, concentrating the weight in the all-important frontal waist to chin areas.
Mercifully, the main reason they hired us at all was apparently to convince a prospective buyer that they were "hip" marketers! After their facilities were sold to a big national, we never saw them again nor again had to drink their unreliable brew. Neither has anyone else, thankfully.
At one point, we also got to work on a famous national brand's new Lite Beer. At a lite-beer-powered brainstorming session, our Elegant Lady Radio Producer said, "Reminds me of making love in canoe!" The meeting went wild at her burst of creativity. She deadpanned the room, and said, "Yeah, f$#cking close to water."
PA did have a lot of good beers though, Senator's Club, Polski Pivo, Olde Griesedick, etc. etc. etc.The best?

Allow me to commend you on your true scientific spirit. You have remained the same. It is Guiness that has changed. The bastards.
So you noticed it too then? Why are there so many guinness drinkers on this thread claiming nothing has changed?

It is the second oldest family owned brewery in America...second after Yuenling.
That Zommerfest is amazying beer. I tried it the first time last friday. Extremely tasty. Not quite as good as St Peter’s English Ale, but pretty close. I had never heard of German ale before friday. I talked to a guy who works for the Schell’s brewery and he explained to me the German “Kolsch” beers and the altbiers of Dusseldorf.
Fascinating!
Kolsch is now my second favorite beer type right behind English Ale. I have not yet tried an Altbier.
No doubt extremely limited distribution!
Guiness has changed. IMNSVHO,it’s “thinner” and has some sort of “aftertaste.”

I should inform all of you that are very experienced Homebrewers that I have only been brewing for a little more than a year and only have experience in extract brewing at this point. But it has turned into a passion.
I am currently sipping on a Nut Brown Ale(ABV 8.3) Brewed on April 6 and has just now developed a nice carbonation level. Brewed a Honey Ale last Friday - still in primary and have a Porter in my secondary and should be ready to be bottled next week. On deck is a Copper Ale.
I have been using Midwest Supply for my brewing supplies and ingredients.
Please ping me to any threads related to brewing, Beer, Wine, or Mead. And I will ping the list.

Well isn’t this a great start, I forgot to ping the list to my post #117!
Between nitrogen and pasteurization, Guinness outside Ireland just isn’t anywhere near the same. To me it’s bitter anywhere else. There, it’s smooth, almost chocolaty.
I had a domestic stout from a local brewery that I enjoyed a few weeks ago, Black Mamba. Slightly peppery, I asked why and was told roasted hops. Aviator Brewing Company, just outside Research Triangle Park in Fuquay-Varina, NC.
