Sigh...to make a long story short, my wife has decided that she's getting out of Texas, with or without me.
She's listed California, Oregon and Washington as possible places where she'd like to relocate. Well, I'm allergic to the cold, so that leaves California.
Any input on possible locations in California where she can "Escape the redneck mentality" and I can still live around semi-sane individuals?
Well....I guess that shouldn’t surprise me. Considering it’s near SF.
San Diego California. America’s Finest City. Small town feel with big city attractions - great weather - nice people - fairly conservative.
You can’t go wrong with San Diego.
Bashing? Isn't that a leftist commie term?
I suggest ya grow a thicker hide tex.
BTW, my people have been in this country since the 1600s, and go back iin CA many generations.
Ive lived here for almost 70 years and have never run into a redneck like people from the left coast
You need to get out more tex.
California was nearly settled by Okie's, and rednecks from Oklahoma,Texas, Arkansas etc. In the 1930s tens of thousands of people from the South, Midwest came to CA, and they continued that pattern for decades. Where ya been tex?
Some of my neighbors are proud rednecks, crew cut, God fearing, hard working people ya wouldn't want to push around tex.
Save your, "Just what is your definition of a redneck" leftist speak, for those drooling in cups.
Good luck. I hate to pile on but we are another family looing to get out of CA to retire. The taxes are going to kill you!
Taxes?
BTW, we have friends in the midwest who spend more on weather related issues/problems + taxes, then we pay in taxes here in CA.
The sky high cost of heating, cooling, heating oil, damage from weather, damage to health from cold, the older ya get the worse it becomes....Special tires for ice/snow, rot and corrosion to their home, cars etc, from weather, etc. They paid more from just one hail storm, then we paid in a year of taxes. And they still pay taxes on top of all this.

Stay out of California. If I can’t convince you, read Victor Davis Hanson.
I often forget how scared and ignorant some Americans can be, until I'm reminded by comments such as yours.
You are nuts if you follow her to California. There is nothing there left worth having. Even if you move to the more conservative parts, you will end up footing the bills for Reconquista and Democrat Eden. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Well, you’re going there...let’s hope when you both come to your senses you can get out.
Well, in light of what California has become, its own self-flagellating behavior, unwillingness to do anything about its illegals, spending, taxes or budget, how in the hell would you expect anything constructive?
If I were you I’d be examining why the heck she wants to get out, loveofmylife or not. This kind of ultimatum isn’t rational, unless there is more than meets the eye.
Guess it depends where you live how high taxes are.
To each his own.
Personally, I don’t think happiness CAN be found in a big city. I live outside of Atlanta. A good 35 miles east. The closer you get, the sadder and more desperate it gets, until you get to the center where the sports arenas and attractions are.
But every major city is run by hypocrats that mismanage with a vengeance. Every decade after every decade the dims promise the poor (and everyone else) that the hypocrat party is the answer to their poverty, yet the Detroits and LAs and Atlantas are more run down, poorer and more crippled with abandoned neighborhoods and businesses and crime than the decade before.
I think the answer is a more moderately sized metro area with more conservatives and sane people as you put it. You might not want to go to those states but think hard about all the “sane people” that are leaving your target states for these very areas.
If you’re truly looking to be around sane people, you’re heading against the flow of traffic!
Once again, GOOD LUCK! I was going to say you need it but the truth is WE ALL DO!
Things like that remind me to be glad I’m not married. Good luck in whatever commie hole she takes you to, man.
Different strokes for different folks I guess. I lived in a very rural setting for a full 10 years, and I can honestly say that it’s not for me. I never once, for even a moment felt like I fit in. Which at the time, prompted me to tell her that we had to move a real city, because I was dying inside. She listened, we moved, and I absolutely owe her the same respect in return.
