Retired teacher, 66, found dead in movie theatre toilet FIVE days after he was reported missing

A 66-year-old retired art teacher was found dead in a Colorado movie theatre on Saturday, five days after he was reported missing by his family.

George DeGrazio's body went unnoticed until cinema employees noticed a foul stench coming from the family bathroom of the multiplex.

Staff then alerted the duty managers and the grim discovery was made.

Loveland Missing Persons Department published a notice on January 9 and police had searched both the cinema and surrounding area after finding DeGrazio's red Nissan Xterra in the parking lot.

Larimer County Deputy Coroner, James MacNaughton, told 7News on Sunday that he had suffered a heart attack and no foul play was suspected.

However, his son, Dylan DeGraziois is furious that staff at the Cinemark in Fort Collins didn't find his father sooner.

He told Fox News: 'If I had the police department saying somebody disappeared in this area and we're trying to locate him, I would be searching every nook and cranny of my establishment. But that didn't happen.'

Speaking to 7News on the evening of the discovery, he lamented: 'I picture him just sitting there in this, like, slumped over, eyes-open position.

'That's just the sheer reality of it. For somebody who didn't know George, that is just a corpse rotting in a bathroom, and that disgusts me. That disgusts me.'

Cinemark corporate headquarters were slow to respond to the unfortunate circumstances over the weekend, issuing an overdue statement on Monday.

The company reassured the public: 'Cinemark is working closely with the Fort Collins Police and Loveland Missing Persons Department on this case.

'As the case is ongoing, we are not able to discuss the details of the investigation at this time. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the DeGrazio family during this difficult period as they mourn the loss...

That is what I was thinking, the “family bathroom” is not the one with the stalls. I can see how that one would be overlooked if the door was always locked.

"Wow, don’t they ever clean the place?!"

That was my first thought too. But I wonder if he was still sitting upright. In which case, the cleaners would have bypassed the stall.

If my family broke into the bathroom every time it emitted a foul stench, I’d never get any alone time.

Happens more often than you think .... just talk to any rescue squad. Cousin of mine went this way too, but at least it was his own bathroom ......

I am surprised there were not any any closing procedures where the bathrooms were checked before the place was locked for the night ! At one time our church ran a skateboard ministry and the place was thoroughly checked before we closed for the night. This included checking the bathrooms and since it involved kids, there were two adults involved in checking.

I used to work for a MLB stadium in security. Part of our duties after the game was to go through EVERY bathroom and open the stall doors to see if someone was hiding. We then worked our way down each level until the stadium was cleared. You’d be surprised how many people we caught trying to go back up to levels we cleared.

My two baseball friends in college snuck into dodger stadium on the 25th anniversary of the stadium. They entered through the vendors gate before the public gates were open. They hid in the toilets often squatting on the seats so that people who came in could not see their feet. The game was sold out and they spent the entire game in the standing areas behind the last row on the concourse.

"Lord, please, please... when it’s my time to go please let it happen when my pants are on."

Oh, I don't know. If it's time to go, might as well have fun with it. I've got a bum ticker. I've told the neighbors not to get too upset if I'm seen one of these weekends being dragged along behind the lawn mower with my headphones and Wayfarer sunglasses on. Just crank up the music, and put another PBR in my hand. Plant me where found. I'll make great fertilizer. Just another "Weekend at Bernie's."

Another senseless death caused by motion pictures. We should ban movies houses. If even one less person does not die in a movie theatre isn’t that worth it? < / sarc>

I don’t know what’s worse - lazy teenagers who lie about cleaning the bathrooms, or lazy cops who ‘search’ a building so well.

Happened once in a murder investigation. Police "searched" a house during the investigation. They initially failed to notice the dead wife and child in a bedroom under the covers. They claimed they initially saw just a messy bed. Indeed.

I believe that was the Entwhistle case. The cops searched the house twice and failed twice to find the bodies. The subsequent delay allowed the perp to flee to Ireland.

That's what I'm thinking. Most people are going to avoid even talking to somebody sitting in one of the stalls. I can see somebody being left alone in there, and a foul smell wouldn't necessarily be suspicious. Though... you'd think after a couple of days somebody would start to catch on. Dang...

"Hey, buddy... how about a courtesy flush, huh? Did something die in there, or what...?"

You are aware that you WILL mess your pants when you die, right?

I think this guy did it right, since the mess ended up where it belonged, rather than in his drawers.

Was also a pretty good scene in Lethal Weapon I when the baddies tried to blow up Det.Murdoch on his own throne.

That’s similar to what my husband said. Someone could have been hiding in there. Everyone just leaves at the end of the night? No one gives the place a security check?

I know. I thought most places have a schedule to clean periodically during the day. A simple knock on the outside would have been good saying, “cleaning” to announce their presence. If no response after several staggered attempts, then maybe somebody with some smarts would have known something was up.
