ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. Only 10 military service members get personal Christmas Day phone calls from President Barack Obama. Last month, Coast Guard Petty Officer Golda Payne learned she would be one of them.
Payne, a 25-year-old Tampa native stationed in Kuwait, couldn't wait. She researched the Obama family. She planned to keep things "light," maybe ask about the family dog and tell him about her bulldog puppy. She gave an interview to the Coast Guard newspaper.
But Christmas came, and Obama never called. Two days later, Payne said her officers told her this was why: The White House had run a criminal background check on her, saw a 2006 drunken driving conviction and didn't want to risk negative publicity.
Payne said she was hurt and disappointed. The drunken driving arrest is her only criminal charge, according to state records, and was a turning point that led her to join the military.
"The Coast Guard has been hands down the best thing that has ever happened to me," Payne said in an email. "It provided me structure and discipline when I needed it most." . . .

All of that stuff is handled a lot farther down the food chain, I believe. Obama probably didn’t even know who he was talking to until they handed him the phone and he looked up at the teleprompter.
That being said, I’m surprised the military took someone with a DUI. I’m pretty sure if you get one while you’re in, you’re out.
I’d be heartbroken, I’m sure....(not)
And I would have taken Grant’s call.
So by this token, if a DUI 7 years ago discounts a soldier, then all muzzies in the military should be quarantined because of the hate spew they suckle from the koran.
Calls only are made to faggots, dykes, blacks, Hispanics, women, etc.; anyone who is a FOOL THAT WOULD VOTE FOR THE MESSIAH.
So she went from booze to Kool-aid?
Big whoop.
Whether or not a DUI matters depends on how bad they want you, and how bad they want to keep you. You can get an enlistment waiver for pretty much anything short of an unpardoned felony, if your qualifications make it worth the trouble. For people already in, it’s the commander’s decision whether they go rehab track or discharge track. A PFC rifleman is automatically toast. A field grade destined for bigger and better things can probably get a pass, unless they need to make an example of someone.
Nope, but if you have a Confederate battle flag tatoo, you are not allowed to serve in the Usurper's marine corps.
Amen. I don’t see the missed call as a cost, but a benefit. Whether she knows it or not, she avoided being used as his foil and purely for political purposes.
I'd hang up on the marxist dirtbag.
Bush would have called, they would have swapped stories, and they would have prayed together.
And if he called me, I'd take the call (and be polite, mostly).

bump!
Sounds to me like a complete misuse of the criminal records system. By what authority where they searching these records? It had nothing to do with being arrested, applying for a security clearance or even a job which requires a release by the way.
I think we have someone in violation of disclosure laws here.
AMEN!
Say the president did call you. Instead of sounding like grandpa after beans, you could say something like: "Thank you for your call, Mr. President. I would like for you to know that I think your mother inter-racially fornicated and got punished with you. Your father left bastards all over the world, and I appreciate his international efforts, except for you. You, Mr. President, are a total waste of protoplasm. My sole exception for abortion is you."
And then you could go on to get ugly.
