OMG, that’s a UNION job...to sell booze? taxpayers have to support alcohol sales? really?
You can’t expect untrained, minimum wage clerks to be responsible enough to sell alcohol prudently. That’s as dangerous as having gasoline and beer sold in the same store. Our state store employees are even allowed to have opinions nowadays, in a general sense.
The system generates revenue for the state, so it’s not as if they are on welfare. Margins would be better with a non-union workforce, sure.
bought what?
Hmmph. Not buying it. Can you still buy liquor at non-govt stores?
this corkscrew
OMG......I want one! What a HOOT!
Sure. In other states. Not in PA. Wine and liquor is sold only by the state stores.
I used to be in favor of dismantling the state stores, but now I’m not. Not because of the union jobs. But because it is a revenue generator.
If the system were privatized, it would create a windfall from selling licenses. Our politicians would spend all of that and use it as collateral to borrow even more money.
So, though it goes against free market principles, I have to resist change here. Don’t kill the golden goose. Don’t give huge wads of revenue to politicians.
I NEED them both!
Sellout.
It’s a public asset. I wouldn’t agree to selling off the Turnpike for the same reason. The most fiscally prudent thing to do is to not let our politicians convert public assets into wads of cash.
*snicker*
Hmmmmn.
But I’m shocked and ‘otprized no one has yet claimed C S Forester’s excellent 1962 epic novel “Hornblower and the Hotspur” - tracing the (not-quite-historic) British naval hero’s battles off the French coast.
The first thought I had was “Harry Hotspur”-it is just about the only time the word is seen here.
There are those who criticize
Every “cowboy” president-
The ones like Reagan and W
Always draw major dissent
And the hotspur called Obama
Condemns them chapter and verse
Then says something rash in public
Which is infinitely worse
If a president is tough in public
They need to have a cowboy’s class-
Not to let their alligator mouth
Overload their hummingbird ass...
Cool-you found another place hotspur was used-I’m not all that partial to HH’s exploits, but they do make good, rousing storytelling.
So much for the small business owners in your state.
What are you talking about? Plenty of small business owners exist and thrive. Selling liquor is not a necessary thing to run a business.
Very good find, Robt.
